As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has truly taken me by storm. Coming from someone who grew up with the original movies, this game feels like a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation – something that’s hard to come by in today’s gaming landscape.
Experience the thrill of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a game that could herald a fresh start for exclusive titles from Xbox’s own studios.
Developed by Machine Games, known for their work on Wolfenstein, in collaboration with Todd Howard from Bethesda Softworks (creator of Elder Scrolls), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a new game. This game centers around the myth of The Great Circle, an ancient theory suggesting that significant historical spiritual sites align along a global circle encircling Earth’s surface. It appears that both Indiana Jones and the Axis powers are investigating whether there might be more to this Great Circle than simply its alignment.
In our review of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, we showered it with high compliments for its distinct mix of exploration, tactile puzzles, and adherence to “immersive sim” principles. Unlike Machine Games’ previous works, it doesn’t conform to the conventional first-person shooter genre. Instead, it invites players to employ cunning and stealth tactics to navigate conflicts. When required, Indiana Jones can dish out some impressive punches.
The game, available exclusively on Xbox and Windows PC until 2025 for PlayStation 5, is mostly well-finished but encounters performance problems on both platforms. To address these issues, the developers at Machine Games have rolled out the first update for the game. Notably, they’ve included Full Ray Tracing for NVIDIA graphics cards on PC; however, to fully utilize this feature, you’ll need a powerful graphics card.
The full patch notes are as follows.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Update 1. December 8, 2024)
New Features
Introduced the Full Ray Tracing (Path Tracing) function for compatible NVIDIA graphics cards. Ensure your system has at least 12GB of video RAM to utilize this functionality. Keep in mind, we’re aiming to incorporate AMD FSR support in an upcoming game update as well.
General
Fix for a rare crash that could occur while saving the game.
Fix for an issue where you could temporarily lose Pre-Order/Deluxe outfit entitlements.
Fix to ensure your photographs appear more quickly when inspecting them from the journal.
Gameplay
A possible solution to prevent an issue with a damaged animation when donning the rebreather straight after jumping into water is…
As a devoted player, I find myself yearning for a solution when my stamina deplets, leaving me unable to physically engage with objects momentarily. In such instances, I wish there was a way to push enemies using my revolver without the need for physical interaction. This would add an extra layer of strategy and realism to the gameplay experience.
Address a problem that might hinder your ability to effectively deflect punches when focusing on a nearby item within your vicinity.
A solution is needed for the problem that prevents you from altering your disguise once you’ve left the Sukhothai village by using a fast-travel signpost.
Fix for several places where the whip may detach unexpectedly when swinging.
Find a solution for an issue occurring in the Nepalese bridge, where Indy’s legs could unintentionally lock during a swing over the gap.
Adjust the settings to ensure that the character, Indy, doesn’t go undetected by adversaries during the process of loading a checkpoint that is right next to guards stationed at the entrance of a forbidden area.
Fix for an issue that may result in Gina not appearing near your docked boat when expected.

Fix for an issue where first shot made from a temporary gun would be silent.
Find a solution for the problem that causes opponents to react slowly following a theft of their valuable items.
A fix is needed to prevent a bug that may cause your character to display as broken in the animation during checkpoint resumption, following the use of a zipline, especially when the game is in the process of saving.
A solution is needed to prevent an occurrence where using a whip during a save-while-performing-a-whip-crack action may cause the whip to become inoperable upon reloading that saved game.
Fix for an issue where you may become stuck in the “Lucky Hat” recovery state.
UI
Added “Reset to Default” selection in the Options menu.
As a researcher, I’ve identified an issue where the Quick Equip menu swiftly cycles through items, potentially displaying the incorrect one. To remedy this, I propose implementing a temporary hold function that delays the cycling of the menu after user interaction, allowing them enough time to make their selection accurately. This solution aims to enhance user experience and prevent errors in the game.
Added explanation of the Blue Suitcase revisit icon on maps to the in-game manual.
Prevent map location titles from overlapping with photo opportunity names.
Fix for intermittent text flicker during the credits.
Ensure the player’s Adventure Book list is updated immediately after unlocking a new book.

Fix for occasional stuttering that might be seen in cutscenes.
Fix to make Indy’s whip behave more naturally when attached to his belt.

Make sure multiple journal entries can be retrieved upon returning to levels or finishing game segments.

Adjust settings to minimize a seldom occurring problem that might cause Gina to bypass or get stuck while navigating towards an elevator at Wat Si Sawai, Sukhothai. This adjustment aims to ensure smoother and uninterrupted movement for Gina.
Fix for an issue where Gina may not help open the Game Room door at the Sukhothai Ziggurat.
As an observer, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a problem with Gina’s character. She appears to encounter difficulties entering co-op vaults or climbing after engaging in combat. It might be beneficial to address this issue within the game mechanics for a smoother gaming experience.
Find a solution to a problem that causes parts of the Vatican fountain puzzle to gradually move, potentially hindering its completion if not addressed promptly over an extended period.
Find a solution to ensure that the “Gold Key: Finishing the Forge” quest object can no longer be stuck or uncompleted in your journal within the Vatican.
A possible solution to prevent a problem where players might die immediately upon opening the safe at Sukhothai HQ, causing them to miss some of the gold, could be:
A possible fix for an issue where doors within the caves might remain locked upon resuming a checkpoint while stealthily infiltrating the Nazi Compound in Gizeh:
As an enthusiastic gamer, I’ve stumbled upon a snag that hinders me from obtaining a crucial book within Voss’ office, nestled within the Nazi Compound in Gizeh. Here’s how I managed to resolve it:
Find a solution to prevent either Antonio or Ventura from entering a “frozen” or fearful state, also known as a “cower” state, when you are in Antonio’s office within the Vatican.

Find a resolution for a problem that could cause dark anomalies, or artifacts, to show up in Indy’s eye during Peruvian cave cutscenes.
Find a solution to an occasional problem where black squares might randomly display on the screen when ‘renderscale’ is employed, particularly at specific resolutions, for AMD graphics cards.
As an enthusiast, I’d recommend taking steps to guarantee seamless export of your Photos when transitioning from Steam cloud saves to Xbox cloud saves. Here’s how:
Please note that AMD FSR support will be added in a future game update.
A new era of high-quality for Xbox story-driven games?
As an analyst, I must admit that while some may find Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s combat less appealing, the universal acclaim for its storytelling is quite remarkable. Troy Baker’s portrayal of Indiana Jones is so spot-on, it feels almost uncanny. Furthermore, the entire cast delivers a top-notch performance, making this production arguably a superior Indiana Jones experience compared to the last two movies in the series.
In recent years, Xbox has received persistent criticism regarding its capacity to create character-centric story games. While Microsoft has excelled in simulation-focused games such as Forza, Flight Simulator, and Age of Empires, the first-party Xbox titles leaning towards narrative and action have not consistently met high quality standards over the past decade. Of course, there have been notable exceptions, but fans continue to query where the platform’s potential “Game of the Year” contender lies, even if the criticism may not always be justified.
Unfortunately, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle didn’t make it in time for Geoff Keighley’s “Game Awards” show as it fell short of the deadline, but there was a good chance it could have been nominated. As we look forward to 2025, one can ponder if upcoming Xbox games such as Avowed, South of Midnight, Fable, Perfect Dark, and more will continue the momentum.
You can now enjoy Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with a premium subscription on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game officially launches for everyone on December 9, 2024, and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
