As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tad concerned about Indiana Jones and The Great Circle‘s PC requirements. I remember when 16MB was considered a luxury for gaming, and now we’re being asked to shell out for 32GB RAM and a 4090 graphics card!
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is hitting shelves next week, December 9th!
But the PC specs listed have some PC users worried if their rigs can handle the heat.
Are the specs too high and unoptimized, or is your PC finally too old?
Indy & The Great Circle
On December 9th, Indiana Jones: The Great Circle will be moving eastward on PCs and gaming consoles. But for those playing on a PC, there’s one detail causing some concern.

Bethesda and Machine Game’s latest release requires quite an impressive amount of hardware resources. It’s not just about high RTX specifications; they are suggesting a minimum of 32GB RAM and 4090 GPUs! This game, The Great Circle, appears to be quite taxing on hardware based on these requirements.
But the minimum is still looking at 16GB RAM and 8GB GPU specs. However, the base size is a whopping 120GB file size! And no, I am not going to normalize high storage spaces like these. I don’t care!
Until hardware manufacturers can comfortably accommodate over 10TB on hard drives, I’ll continue advocating for it, creators of files and games: please consider optimization or offering separate download options based on resolution!
Listen, half the time it’s 4K textures and uncompressed file sizes doing the damage. But The Great Circle is a single-player game! What, they giving me 8K resolution of Harrison Ford’s behind now!
My Lord thats bigger than 2 Witcher 3s! Also to note, yes, 16GB really is the recommended RAM specs. But to be fair, RAM sizes and prices have reasonably changed over the years. That one is not such a big burn on the hardware and wallet.
Also, just to harp on the space thing again, the specs are asking for SDD storage. This is because of faster loading and AI upscaling compatibility.
Absolutely, I appreciate it! Using 120GB out of a 500GB SSD, great! However, the requirement for such high specifications for AI upscaling gives me a bit of a pause, to be honest.
Since it appears as if the game hasn’t been truly optimized. For more details, read through the entire article about PS5 Pro optimization. In essence, it seems like they are creating an illusion of smoother frames by sacrificing graphic quality instead.
It Belongs In A 1080
Yet, the prospect of Indy and The Great Circle seems intriguing from a technical standpoint. This game centers around first-person action-adventure puzzles, a genre that isn’t commonly found in AAA titles nowadays.
A timeless, humorous, and thrilling experience is exactly what the entertainment world has been yearning for all along. Admittedly, Harrison isn’t providing the voiceover, but considering his past performances as Indiana Jones, this might turn out to be a good thing!
However, maintaining 30 frames per second (fps) at 1080p resolution seems excessive, regardless of the graphics card. On the other hand, a 4080 16GB card might struggle to deliver ultra graphics at a native 60 fps, isn’t that surprising?
Apologies, but it appears that the game’s performance is inefficient, and the emphasis solely on enhancing resolution is cause for concern. With an increasing number of studios adopting this approach and relying heavily on artificial intelligence, there’s a growing trend. While upscaling can be beneficial for older anime or films with human input at times, it might not be ideal for games.
It’s quite possible that the studios delegate most of the work to the upscaler, leaving little room for human involvement. I certainly hope you managed to boost your credit score enough for a good gaming setup, or else you’ll be stuck with a 30 frames per second experience!
