Influencer Faces Health Setback

Ashley Surcombe‘s family is sharing a heartbreaking update.

A week and a day after British influencer Ashley was discovered unconscious in her Seoul apartment in South Korea and was subsequently admitted to intensive care, she encountered a setback in her recovery. Her family informed The Independent that despite appearing to improve and even being transferred to the hospital’s general ward, she was readmitted to the ICU and put on a ventilator.

Ashley’s sister, named Kat Surcombe, revealed to the news outlet in an interview on April 4th that Ashley was back in intensive care on April 2nd due to a collapsed lung while fighting pneumonia. Since then, Kat mentioned that Ashley has displayed encouraging improvements, indicating that her lung has started to inflate again.

Kat shared that the doctors have suggested she’ll stay there for the rest of the week, as she’s in the U.K. She assured everyone she’s receiving excellent care, and she’s confident she’s doing everything possible to return home. However, the reality is, she yearns deeply for her presence. All she wants is to embrace her and assure her she isn’t on her own.

As a devoted sibling, the agony I’ve felt, being unable to stand by Ashley during what undoubtedly is her most harrowing ordeal, has been one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever had to endure. I’ve wept from the very depths of my being, and while it might sound overly dramatic, nearly losing my sister felt like a piece of my soul was torn away.

Although Kat and her mother, Karen Surcombe, haven’t managed to stay with Ashley, her father, Nigel Surcombe, has stood by her side ever since he flew to Seoul on March 25, just a day after she was admitted to the hospital.

According to Karen’s words, “He’s doing alright despite some language difficulties, yet the medical team has been clear in communicating his condition.

Despite the Surcombes admitting that the specifics surrounding the cause of Ashley’s initial fainting episode remain undetermined, their primary concern is ensuring the return of the influencer, who was in Seoul producing travel content for a Korean company, back to the United Kingdom.

Karen, who organized a GoFundMe campaign for her daughter Ashley’s medical costs, stated that the matter of importance was not a focus for them. Instead, their main goal is to bring Ashley home as soon as possible. However, she needs to receive clearance from doctors to fly, which could take at least two weeks or more.

Kat first shared news of Ashley’s health scare by posting a photo of her in a hospital bed.

She prefaced a picture she shared on Instagram on March 27 with an apology, acknowledging it might be distressing, but she did so because her sister and family are in need of assistance. To help alleviate their financial burden due to Ashley’s medical expenses and returning her home, she set up a Go Fund Me account for her parents.

The 33-year-old added, “We as a family just don’t have the means to cover the mounting costs.”
