Injured WWE Star Advertised for Upcoming Japan Tour

As a long-time WWE fan with a deep appreciation for Japanese wrestling, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming live tour in Osaka and Tokyo. The announcement of high-profile stars like Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, IYO SKY, Bobby Lashley, and the return of Asuka and Meiko Satomura has me on the edge of my seat.

For the first time in five years, WWE is preparing for a live tour in Japan, visiting Osaka and Tokyo towards the end of July. Notable WWE personalities set to attend include Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, Cody Rhodes (the Undisputed WWE Champion), Shinsuke Nakamura, Drew McIntyre, IYO SKY, and Bobby Lashley, among others. This significant comeback seems to have WWE pulling out all the stops for Japanese fans, as Asuka (former WWE Women’s Champion) and Meiko Satomura are being promoted.

Fans were taken aback when the company announced that Asuka, who was injured at the time, would be featured in promotional materials for upcoming events. However, she was subsequently removed from these materials. Later on, Asuka reappeared and is now scheduled to join Damage CTRL in their match against Satomura, Belair, and Cargill. As for Meiko, she last competed in a WWE ring during a title bout against Roxanne Perez in March 2023. After being absent for over a year, she made her comeback in June.

In March, Asuka suffered a knee injury but chose to wrestle at WrestleMania 40 and WWE Backlash in May despite this. After The Kabuki Warriors lost to Cargill and Belair, Asuka decided to take a break to let her body heal and have surgery on the injury. Before it was announced, fans speculated that Asuka might be in Japan based on photos of her that looked like they were taken at a cat café.

Asuka’s comeback date is uncertain, but her presence with Damage CTRL is a positive step. In her absence, Dakota Kai has teamed up with SKY and Kairi Sane against Kayden Carter, Katana Chance, and Lyra Valkyria, who are currently feuding as former Women’s Tag Team Champions and WWE Draft picks respectively. The storyline has expanded with the involvement of Sonya Deville, Zoey Stark, and Shayna Baszler after they attacked the group on Monday Night Raw a few weeks prior.

WWE has been expanding its international connections, particularly in Japan. In early 2024, news emerged that they were pursuing a new “female alliance group,” now known as Marigold. Moreover, WWE frequently collaborates with Pro Wrestling NOAH; most recently, they dispatched AJ Styles to Japan for his first visit in eight years.
