Inside Hugh Jackman & Sutton Foster's First Public Date Night

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s romance is proving to be the greatest show.

Following several months of speculation sparked by their electric stage connection in the 2022 production of Broadway’s “The Music Man”, they officially acknowledged their romantic involvement on January 6th. This was made public when they were spotted walking together in Santa Monica, California, after a quiet dinner, holding hands.

In preparation for our outing, I chose to wear a long, brown trench coat paired with an olive green dress, complemented by black heels and a petite black handbag. Meanwhile, Hugh opted for a smart ensemble consisting of white trousers, a gray sweater layered under a black jacket, and black slip-on sneakers.

During their stroll through a Southern California urban landscape, the pair seemed cheerful, frequently exchanging smiles and conversation as they navigated crosswalks and pavements without ever letting go of one another’s hands.

The confirmation of their relationship unfolds as a period of transformation for the pair. Notably, Hugh announced his separation from Deborra-Lee Furness in September 2023, marking an end to their 27-year marriage. Simultaneously, Sutton filed for divorce from her ex, Ted Griffin, in October, ending a decade-long relationship that produced Emily, who is now 7 years old.

However, although their recent appearance marked the first public acknowledgement of their romantic involvement, Hugh and Sutton had not kept their relationship completely hidden in the time leading up to it.

Indeed, the actor from The Greatest Showman made a double appearance to back Sutton during her run of Once Upon a Mattress at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. On January 4, he was there with Carol Burnett, who originally starred in the musical’s production.

Additionally, they openly showed their encouragement for each other’s performances in “Music Man” while they were on stage together, from February 2022 until January 2023.

In 2022, Sutton praised him as the epitome of dedication, kindness, and generosity in an interview with Vogue. And indeed, those qualities are genuine. Surprisingly, he’s now one of my closest friends, something I hadn’t anticipated when we first met. This Memorial Day, we celebrated with our families, making it a delight to make new friends after 40 years.
