As a compassionate observer, I find myself deeply moved by Isabella‘s journey. Her resilience and determination to face every challenge head-on is truly inspiring. From the heartwarming visits from Bryce Dallas Howard and Bryce Harper to the support of her family and friends, it is clear that she has an unyielding spirit that refuses to be broken.
Regardless of whatever presents Michael Strahan and his former wife Jean Muggli might exchange this holiday season, it’s clear that their daughter Isabella Strahan has already been given the most precious gift of all this year.
8 months following the diagnosis of medulloblastoma, a rapid-growing malignant brain tumor, in a 20-year-old student at the University of Southern California, she received her final chemotherapy treatment at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in North Carolina this past June. A month later, after a successful MRI scan, she was officially declared cancer-free.
In an interview with Town & Country last October, a year after she experienced persistent headaches, nausea, and difficulty walking straight, Isabella shared that she has significantly grown in various aspects. She expressed her profound gratitude for being able to walk and talk again, acknowledging that we often overlook the things we can do until we are unable to do them.
These days, I can’t help but immerse myself fully in the vibrant college life here in LA, savoring each and every freedom it offers to the absolute fullest.
The model stated that she doesn’t refuse any opportunities, whether it’s embellishing her new living space with USC cardinal and gold decor, treating herself to a limo ride with her twin sister Sophia Strahan to Disneyland for their 20th birthday, or simply enjoying the moment without considering when it might happen. She explained, “I don’t say no to anything… You don’t know what next week will look like.
Though her medical team has given her hope to be at least a little forward-thinking.
Despite facing some lingering issues with double vision and regaining the weight she lost during her three surgeries (craniotomies) and four rounds of chemotherapy, Isabella shared her optimism about her cancer prognosis: “My doctors have given me hope that it won’t return, which is incredibly reassuring,” she said. “I’m grateful to be alive. This year has taught me resilience. It’s the people in your life that truly make living worthwhile.
Moreover, she had a close relationship with her Super Bowl-winning father, who is also the parent of Tanita Strahan, 33, and Michael Strahan Jr., 30, from his first marriage to Wanda Hutchins. In the past, he would spend less time with his friends. However, now he actively seeks opportunities to gather with his group of companions whenever suitable.
In a conversation with Town & Country, the Good Morning America cohost expressed that while we’ve always been a tight-knit family, this past year has provided some valuable insight. Ultimately, he emphasized that what truly matters are our children, family members like mom, dad, and other loved ones, as well as our friends – cherishing these relationships and keeping them close is crucial.
Although they will certainly enjoy a happy Christmas, the former defensive end is just as excited about embracing everyday, ordinary aspects of life too.
He shared with the magazine that each morning he savors the day ahead, finding more joy in it rather than focusing on what’s coming up in the next week, month, or year.
As the family prepares to move forward from a difficult time, let’s reflect on all the events that eventually paved the way for their future happiness.
It wasn’t until October 2023 that Isabella Strahan, the child of ex-partners Michael Strahan and Jean Muggli, noticed any signs of ill health as she began to experience persistent headaches and feelings of nausea.
One day, she vomited blood, prompted by her father’s advice, she underwent a comprehensive physical examination and an MRI scan. The findings revealed a particularly aggressive type of brain tumor known as medulloblastoma, which is more common among younger individuals.
Later that month, she underwent brain surgery to remove the mass.
In a January 2024 interview with her father and Robin Roberts from ABC News, Isabella disclosed her diagnosis.
At a certain point, Michael expressed his heartfelt belief that in numerous aspects, he was one of the most fortunate men alive, owing mainly to having an extraordinary daughter. Despite her challenges, he acknowledged them, but also held confidence that they were manageable for her, and she would triumph over them.
Sophia Strahan, Isabella’s twin sibling, also extended her support. On Instagram, she expressed, “I feel incredibly fortunate to have such an incredible sister and loyal friend. The past few months have been tougher than we could have ever foreseen, but they’ve shown me just how resilient you are.
Following her interview, Isabella shared she had finished her round of radiation therapy.
In her January 16 YouTube video, she expressed her immense relief, saying, “After six grueling weeks, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The side effects and everything have been wearing me down, but now, I’m thrilled to be on the mend for my head.
Following radiation therapy, Isabella began undergoing chemotherapy to treat her cancer.
She described her discomfort in her Feb. 16 vlog, saying it felt like she had undergone a massive root canal procedure on her entire mouth. Every tooth seemed to have been forcibly extracted and not even carefully reinserted. Her jaw and the bottom of her tongue were painful, and swallowing water caused additional discomfort.
Nevertheless, the teenager maintained her high spirits, humorously commenting in a video shared a week afterward that her hair was currently “inadequate.
“Besides being bald,” she said, “it doesn’t bring me pain mentally.”
Initially slated for my sister’s second round of chemotherapy in early March, an unexpected turn of events led to her undergoing emergency surgery on her skull. During this operation, the medical team drained excess fluid from her head and replaced a bone they had initially removed with a titanium plate. This unforeseen event caused a delay in her chemotherapy schedule by several weeks.
In her vlog posted on March 6th, she expressed that she was experiencing intense discomfort. Her face appears swollen, and she finds the situation very unpleasant. Earlier, the pain was severe, causing her to yell out in distress.
In March, Isabella’s father, Michael, managed to bring Bryson Tiller, her favorite singer, to their residence in New York City as a comforting surprise during her treatment sessions.
In a playful manner, Michael commented on his daughter’s blog about their recent visit, saying, “It seems like it’s been ages since you’ve been this active!
In a video posted on March 21st, Isabella announced that she had begun her second series of chemotherapy treatments, which means only four sessions remain.
Amid her second chemotherapy round, Isabella said she began experiencing difficulties in walking.
She mentioned on her March 27 vlog that she finds it difficult to walk without feeling dizzy or short of breath, and expressed her wish for a medication that could alleviate exhaustion.
After completing her second round of chemotherapy, the YouTuber posted an optimistic message stating that she now requires just two additional sessions, rather than the initially planned four.
She stated in a video shared on April 10th, “These are joyful tears I’m shedding,” emphasizing that they were not the kind of tears that come from sadness, but rather those that flow when one is truly happy.
Initially, Isabella encountered an unexpected setback during her therapy process as she needed a third brain surgery (craniotomy). As she explained, this operation differed significantly from her past experiences.
Admittedly, I’ve had quite a few tears lately,” she explained in her April 12 vlog. “I underwent a procedure where they inserted a needle in three places to drain fluid, and I was fully conscious during the operation. Therefore, my first surgery experience while wide awake.
In her latest update on her third round of chemotherapy, Isabella shared that she had no desire or ability to eat. She explained in a May 21 video that her appetite had completely vanished, saying “It fell to zero last week,” and found this frustrating.
Despite battling memory issues, Isabella managed to find a silver lining in her situation. “Tomorrow marks the end of my chemotherapy treatment,” she remarked, “which means I’ve completed my final round, and that’s it. It’s hard to believe.
Isabella grabbed her crown to mark the completion of her chemotherapy sessions. In a June 8 TikTok post, she simply stated, “Chemo is done,” and accompanied it with the caption, “Mission accomplished.
Due to the timing, the student from the University of Southern California, who marked his achievement by ringing a bell following a confetti procession, could enjoy a small respite during the summer season.
She shared that she was delighted because she believed her work would be completed by the end of July. In total, she had planned for six rounds, after which she would immediately return to school. Her happiness is evident.
In her July 17 YouTube video blog, she disclosed that she had recently had her chemo port removed. She admitted that the area was still tender, but added, “It seems I’ll need to avoid water and be cautious for about four weeks, along with taking care of the scar. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound too demanding.
After completing her chemotherapy, Isabella appeared visibly relaxed following a fantastic scan result, expressing on her YouTube channel on July 18th that “all tests came back clean, no cancer, and everything is going well.
Even though I know I won’t see my doctors and caregivers again soon, I can’t help but miss them dearly. They are all such kind people, and I feel quite sad today knowing that I won’t be returning to their care for a while because I truly adore them.
Since Isabella had been declared cancer-free, there was no question in her mind what she would do next but visit Disneyland. To celebrate her 20th birthday, which fell on October 26th a few days early, her Super Bowl-winning father and twin sister Sophia joined her for the occasion.
The college student also celebrated another key milestone.
365 days have passed since my life underwent a significant transformation, as indicated by her caption on an Instagram Story post featuring a photo of herself in academic regalia (cap, gown, mask) and lying in a hospital bed. She also shared another picture filled with balloons and flowers, expressing gratitude for the advancements she’s experienced with the words “Thankful for the progress I’ve made.
