They started dating a year before the show began filming, and their storyline added fuel to one of TV’s iconic love triangles that also included Lauren Conrad.

Kristin expressed in her 2016 book, Balancing in Heels, that she had deeply cherished and fiercely battled alongside Stephen. Later, after we left the venue, “He kissed me under the rain,” she disclosed, which was the most charming moment.

Despite Kristin labeling Mark Estes as the “best boyfriend” she’s ever known, she was open about the challenges she faced due to their significant age difference of 13 years.

In her podcast in October 2024, she explained that she ended things with Mark as she felt it wasn’t suitable for the long term. She clarified that it wasn’t due to a lack of love or any negative incidents; neither did they cheat nor were they unkind. Instead, she expressed that those types of breakups are often the most challenging.
