Inside Out 2 Star Kensington Tallman Talks Sequel Ideas and Her Ideal Disney Crossover

As a fan who’s been through my own emotional rollercoaster of anxiety and self-doubt, I found Kensington Tallman‘s performance as Riley in Inside Out 2 incredibly relatable and poignant. The way she portrayed Anxiety’s turmoil was not just powerful on screen, but it also served as a mirror to my own struggles. It reminded me that we all have our moments of self-doubt, but we should never hide them or let them define us.

In an exclusive chat with ComicBook, Kensington Tallman, who voices Riley in Inside Out 2, shared insights about the highly anticipated Pixar sequel during Disney’s D23 event. The movie will be available for home viewing on September 10th, and you can purchase it in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, or DVD formats. A SteelBook Edition is also on its way. During our conversation, Tallman delved into her role as Riley and the film’s most poignant scene. In the movie, Anxiety is portrayed as a powerful force of nature, but it reaches its peak in the climax where the character becomes a literal blur, potentially jeopardizing Riley’s hockey aspirations. Here’s what she had to share about that emotional sequence.

“This is a good question.. I would say the most challenging aspect of playing Riley is probably when Anxiety takes over because I’ve had my own struggles with anxiety. And I thought anxiety was something that I should hide,” Tallman said. “I think what’s really special is that it teaches us that anxiety is totally normal, and it’s okay not to be okay sometimes. But, recording the anxiety attack and saying, ‘ I’m not good enough’ really opened my eyes and showed me how much I say that to myself, and how much I talked down on myself. So, I think that was a really eye-opening part of the film. I think we all kind of struggle with that from time to time.”

The actress explained, “It was tough to document my panic attack since I’ve experienced them myself. However, it reinforced for me that it’s alright to go through such moments. Moreover, they don’t last indefinitely. Panic attacks are fleeting aspects of our lives. They’re temporary and will pass. All I can recall is taking deep breaths. I believe the panic attack was portrayed exceptionally well, showing us that it’s okay not to always be at our best.”

What Does The Future Hold For Riley?

In our discussion, the actress spoke about which emotion Riley should deal with next. Not surprisingly, as fans have been curious since the release of Inside Out 2, love is a possibility that has been suggested. Additionally, Tallman mentioned that if there was a crossover between Disney projects, Monsters Inc. would be the one she’d prefer to see Riley in.

“It seems likely that the story will revolve around love, as I imagine love encompassing various facets and I’d be thrilled to explore Riley’s affection. As for the time period in Riley’s life we should focus on, Tallman suggested exploring Middle School and High School, opening up a myriad of intriguing possibilities.”

She stated, “Indeed, she is in her college years, transitioning into adulthood – a time that can be both terrifying and exhilarating at times. It’s intriguing to me how one could harmoniously blend the thrill, fear, and apprehension during this period. I think it would be fascinating to develop such a narrative. Although I am only 16 years old, I am nearly there. I can sense that soon enough, I will embark on this unique journey.”
