It appears that Insomniac Games, a renowned studio of PlayStation, initially removed and later re-uploaded their collection of premium virtual reality games, which can only be found on the Oculus/Meta store. This may suggest some concerns about the current Virtual Reality (VR) market, as Insomniac developed four titles specifically for VR computers that have not received much attention.
Games such as Edge of Nowhere, The Unspoken, Feral Rites, and Stormland, which fans had long anticipated to be playable on PSVR2, were mysteriously removed without any official announcement. This news was first spotted on platforms like ResetEra about a week ago, but it didn’t garner much attention, even from the usually active game preservation community. It wasn’t until GameRant published a story over the weekend and Insomniac posted an update that we became aware of this development.
It seems that instead of being a malicious act, the removal of these games appears to be due to them being launched on the Oculus Windows Store for Oculus Rift and Rift S, which Meta no longer supports. However, Insomniac Games have chosen not to provide an explicit reason, but they’ve hinted at a resolution by re-releasing Edge of Nowhere, Stormland, and Feral Rites without explanation over the weekend. They are also working on restoring access to The Unspoken.
