The renowned game developer Insomniac Games, known for hits like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank, is undergoing some significant leadership transitions. After nearly 30 years as CEO, Ted Price, who founded the company in 1994, has announced his retirement from the games industry effective at the end of March.
2024 proved to be difficult, but Insomniacs remained dedicated to creating games for our audience, as Price’s announcement states. This unwavering determination and teamwork has led us to one of the most robust positions we’ve been in for years. Each game in development looks stunning and plays exceptionally well.
Consequently, last week, I found myself feeling at ease to inform the Insomniac team that, following my immense good fortune and satisfying journey in the gaming world, I’ve decided to retire from the industry by the end of March. Today, I am expanding the circle to share this news more widely.
This decision I took was made a year ago. Having led Insomniac for more than three decades, I personally felt that it was high time for me to move over and allow new leaders to guide our team forward.
For the last year, I’ve collaborated with Insomniac’s top management to design a succession strategy. This plan is expected to ensure continuity, maintain stability, and provide robust leadership that will enable us to continue delivering what our audience loves for many years to come.
The leadership at Insomniac Games is undergoing a change, with three new co-heads taking over. These individuals are Chad Dezern, who previously held the position of Creative Director, Ryan Schneider, former Head of Brand and Leadership Strategy, and Jen Huang, formerly the Chief Financial Officer.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve just read an extended post on the PlayStation Blog from the new trio stepping up as co-heads at Insomniac Games. They took the time to acknowledge the remarkable work and impact of our departing CEO, and shared that we’ll carry on creating the genre-defining games that have made Insomniac a household name in the gaming world.
They expressed a unified goal: maintaining what sets Insomniac apart over three decades while finding innovative ways to thrive in the future. We’ll maintain focus on our studio environment, emphasizing openness and teamwork. Our aim is to create an environment where employees can achieve their best career accomplishments.
In essence, this means we will continue developing the games you cherish, ensuring we take good care of our team members in the process. This is consistent with our studio’s mission to create a meaningful and enduring impact on people’s lives.
At present, Insomniac Games is engaged in developing Marvel’s Wolverine. This project was announced in the year 2021 and has recently undergone a shift in its creative direction. Rumors suggest that the game might be released as early as 2026.
Meanwhile, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, currently available for PS5, launches for PC on January 30.
