The sci-fi title, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” may not arrive as quickly as fans were anticipating. It’s been five years since Naughty Dog unveiled a fresh game, with their last release being “The Last of Us Part 2.” Since then, they’ve re-released both versions of The Last of Us (including the staggered PC launches) and two seasons of The Last of Us. Interestingly, this wasn’t part of the initial plan as Naughty Dog had been working on “The Last of Us Online,” a project that would likely have been released by now or close to it. However, this ambitious project was abandoned in 2023.
Since 2020, Naughty Dog’s star team, spearheaded by Neil Druckmann, has been engrossed in creating a fresh intellectual property titled “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet“. This is their first new IP since 2013, promising an intriguing retrofuture sci-fi narrative featuring a large cast of gifted performers from both the gaming and television industries. While Neil Druckmann typically prefers not to disclose games until they are ready for release, some speculate that “Intergalactic” might debut in 2026. However, this timeline may not be accurate, as the team’s work on the project could potentially span a shorter duration.
Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Reportedly Won’t Release Next Year
On ResetEra, well-known journalist and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has indicated that the game “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet” won’t be released in 2026. This news is quite disappointing because if it’s accurate, it means there will be a gap of at least seven years between new games from Naughty Dog, which could also mean the game might not be exclusive to the PS5. It’s plausible that “Intergalactic” might be a PS6 title if it’s slated for 2027, but “The Last of Us Part 2” was still able to launch on the PS4 even though the PS5 came out just five months prior.
As a dedicated fan, I must acknowledge that while Schreier’s insights are generally spot-on due to his extensive industry connections, there’s always a chance he might be off the mark this time. There’s a glimmer of hope that Naughty Dog could accelerate their production schedule and release “Intergalactic” by holiday 2026. However, in a recent interview, Neil Druckmann shed some light on the game’s development progress, suggesting that we might still be years away from its launch – a disappointing prospect, I must admit. At this moment, it remains uncertain if we can expect any sneak peeks of “Intergalactic” before the end of the year. A first look at gameplay would undeniably be exciting, but if it’s not slated for release next year, it might not be possible under current circumstances.
At present, we’re not well-versed in the details of the game titled “Intergalactic“. It promises an engaging narrative about a bounty hunter stranded on a barren planet that was once home to a fervent religion. The story takes place after a prolonged period of darkness, and the protagonist seeks to discover what transpired on this planet in order to break free from it. This concept seems thrilling, marking another unique tale for Naughty Dog. Here’s hoping we won’t have to endure a prolonged wait before getting our hands on it.
