As a cinephile who’s been following the evolution of comic book adaptations for decades, I can hardly contain my excitement about the return of Invincible Universe: Battle Beast! Having grown up reading Kirkman and Walker’s groundbreaking comics, it’s truly heartening to see the series being revisited with such fervor.
With the popular animated show Invincible continuing its success on Amazon Prime Video, the creative minds behind it have chosen to revisit the esteemed comic book series as their next project.
From 2003 to 2018, the Invincible comic series was penned by Robert Kirkman with artwork by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.
The animated series that debuted in 2021 is preparing for its third part, scheduled to air in April 2025.
Soon after, the comic books will return with new series Invincible Universe: Battle Beast.

In April 2025, the first issue of “Invincible Universe: Battle Beast” is set to drop, following closely on the heels of Invincible’s third season finale.

In a statement, Kirkman expressed his enthusiasm by saying: “I simply can’t seem to get my fill of the Invincible Universe!
Transitioning straight from the comic book adaptation to the animated show, there’s been no real downtime for me. However, during this process of transforming the series into animation, I’ve been eager to explore something fresh and exciting!
Veteran viewers are likely aware that Battle Beast has a significant absence from the series, with no appearance between Issue 19 and Issue 55 of Invincible.
We’ve got a wealth of tales to share, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Ryan Ottley, one of the creators of Battle Beast, joining me in the storytelling!
Ottley stated: “When Robert and I initially designed Battle Beast for Invincible issue #19 as a means to expand Invincible’s rogues, I wasn’t certain if he’d turn out to be a significant character with recurring roles or one who would meet an immediate grisly end.
Robert was consistently unpredictable, ready to deliver a shocking twist at any instant. The thought of visually depicting such an event always had me eagerly anticipating the task!
Fortunately, Battle Beast gained popularity among fans and survived to spin a more extensive yarn! It’s fantastic to collaborate with Robert once more within the Invincible Universe.
Previously, I had shared my uncertainty about which project to tackle next. When he suggested we collaborate on a Battle Beast series, it ignited my excitement for returning to a self-owned comic and further expanding the Invincible Universe!
I’m absolutely thrilled to return to Image Comics and Skybound, and I’m bursting with excitement over the tale we’re developing for this series! It’s been ages since I’ve experienced such joy as I have while working on Invincible.
