The Armored Avenger is not typically known for his rogues gallery, but when you consider the sheer brilliance of Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal and the impending clash with Marvel’s Greatest Villain, my anticipation knows no bounds!
In the fresh Iron Man comic series, Iron Man will square off against an exceptionally challenging adversary. While Iron Man may not have as extensive a rogues gallery as characters like Spider-Man, he is still one of Marvel’s most beloved heroes. This popularity is particularly evident when considering Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, when it comes to the comics, Iron Man has engaged in battles with various foes both individually and as part of the Avengers. Yet, the upcoming writer promises that Iron Man will encounter a villain who is widely recognized as Marvel’s most formidable antagonist.
In our chat with Spencer Ackerman, we discussed his forthcoming work on Iron Man. To wrap up the conversation, we asked about potential dangers and challenges that will surface in Iron Man, to which Ackerman hinted at a yet-unrevealed antagonist.
In the world beyond our window, economic systems are escalating violence on a massive scale. Ackerman predicts this will lead to unprecedented levels of violence, reminiscent of superhero storylines. Additionally, there will be gigantic beings with immense strength, labyrinthine dangers, threats from other dimensions, inner struggles, demonic entities, technological messes, unintended consequences from well-thought-out plans, ordinary villains, classic Iron Man adversaries, new Iron Man adversaries, allies of Iron Man who are themselves villains, and the most formidable villain in the Marvel Universe’s history.
Who is Marvel’s greatest villain?
When you ponder about the most formidable villain in Marvel Universe history, it’s typically Doctor Doom who springs to mind. Interestingly enough, Marvel Studios has revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Doctor Doom in the upcoming MCU films titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. As the MCU prepares grand schemes for Doctor Doom, the comics are simultaneously boosting Doom’s presence following the end of Blood Hunt.
The grand summer spectacular concluded with Doctor Doom assuming the role of Sorcerer Supreme from Doctor Strange. In 2025, we can anticipate “One World Under Doom,” as the Marvel Universe grapples with this altered status quo for Doctor Doom. Whether it’s a universal event or simply a publishing focus is yet to be determined, but fans should brace themselves for an abundance of Doctor Doom in the future.
