Iron Man’s Fatal Blow to Thanos Made This Guardians 3 Twist Even Better

Reflecting on potential enhancements for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″, it’s worth considering that one key MCU moment could have added an extra layer of charm. Despite the franchise now diving into the Multiverse Saga, fans often find themselves nostalgic about the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Infinity Saga revolutionized the superhero genre and the epic showdowns in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame” were among the most successful blockbusters in recent memory. Over a decade, Marvel carefully crafted the looming threat of Thanos, making his ultimate downfall that much more rewarding.

In Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man made a selfless choice by giving up his life to vanquish Thanos, a decision that has left a lasting impression on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it’s never easy to see our beloved characters meet their end, it proved to be a pivotal moment as the original franchise figurehead delivered the decisive blow. Tony Stark’s journey found its completion with his sacrifice, establishing an indelible legacy within Marvel. Among the heroes of the MCU, there might just be one who regrets not being chosen for that fateful role.

Drax’s Reaction To Avengers: Endgame Changes How His Story Looks In The Movie

Thanos Is Responsible For His Family’s Deaths

In the MCU, by the time of Avengers: Endgame, everyone had experienced Thanos’ wrath in some way. However, Drax the Destroyer held a unique bond with the Mad Titan. When he first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, he joined Star-Lord and the team with the intention of avenging his family. Thanos, indirectly, was responsible for the death of Drax’s wife and daughter at the hands of Ronan the Accuser, so once Ronan was defeated, it was only natural for Drax to seek out the one orchestrating the events.

Absolutely, in the battle against Thanos, Drax played a lesser role due to him being among the population that vanished. Additionally, it was not Drax who delivered the final blow to Thanos. In an interview with GQ in 2019, actor Dave Bautista mentioned that Drax would have been disheartened by this fact. It’s unfortunate that Drax didn’t get a chance for personal revenge against Thanos, given his family has always been his driving force. However, this could make the future storyline of Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all the more unique and significant.

Drax Dealing With The Aftermath Of Losing The Chance To Personally Avenge His Family Makes Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’s Ending Hit All The Harder

He Finds A New Purpose In Life

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, rejoining the Guardians post-“Avengers: Endgame” kept me occupied, yet I couldn’t shake off the sense of remorse in my quiet moments for not being the one to eliminate Thanos. My drive had always been to avenge my family personally, so while I could revel in Thanos’ demise, it didn’t provide the closure I sought. However, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” skillfully advanced my narrative and offered me a fresh mission in life. Although the ending of the film doesn’t erase my regret, it does help alleviate some of the emptiness left behind.

In a different phrasing, during the movie’s conclusion, the Guardians assisted High Evolutionary’s experimental Star Children in fleeing to Knowhere. As the Guardians part ways at the end of the film, Drax ultimately decides to remain on Knowhere to protect the children, with Nebula herself commenting that he was destined to become a parent. This heartwarming ending for Drax wouldn’t have occurred if he had been the one to eliminate Thanos. Instead, he now has an opportunity to foster a new type of family and guide the future, rather than being weighed down by any residual remorse concerning his wife and daughter.

I’m So Glad Drax Gets A Happy Ending In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 After Thanos’ Death

Drax Doesn’t Have To Live With His Regret Anymore

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there were numerous speculations that a character might perish. But it turned out to be a delightful twist for fans as everyone seemed to have a relatively optimistic conclusion. This was particularly moving for characters like Drax, Nebula, and Gamora, who had a more personal encounter with Thanos’ destructive actions. Interestingly, Nebula and Gamora, being Thanos’ adopted daughters, may have felt just as much remorse about not killing him as Drax did. Nevertheless, they all received satisfying conclusions, though they were tinged with bittersweet feelings.

In simpler terms, Nebula stayed on Knowhere with Drax to care for the Star Children and reconstruct a world similar to one she always wanted to live in. Gamora reconciled with Peter Quill and resumed her journey with her newfound family, the Ravagers. It’s touching to see that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has provided these three Guardians, who suffered greatly at Thanos’ hands, with a tranquil life they deserve following his demise. Although they didn’t directly take his life, there’s nothing for them to feel remorseful about.
