Is “Copilot just the new Microsoft Clippy?” — NVIDIA CEO brands Elon Musk ‘superhuman’ for hitting impressive AI feat in just 19 days as Qualcomm recalls subpar Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit

As an observer with a background in tech and a keen interest in the industry, I find myself consistently fascinated by the rapid evolution of technology and the competitive landscape it creates. This week was no exception, as we saw CEOs from Salesforce and NVIDIA making headlines for their colorful remarks about their peers and competitors.

This week, tech industry leaders have been making headlines with Salesforce’s CEO likening Copilot to the old Microsoft Clippy, while NVIDIA’s CEO labeled Elon Musk as “superhuman.” Notably, artificial intelligence remains a dominant focus in discussions, but there were also developments such as Qualcomm scrapping its Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit and Microsoft quietly releasing two Xbox games.

Salesforce CEO says “Copilot is just the new Microsoft Clippy”

In simple terms, Microsoft offers several Copilots for both general users and businesses, however, a prominent tech leader views Copilot as the modern equivalent to Microsoft Clippy. Recently on a podcast, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff expressed confidence that Salesforce could outperform Microsoft in AI technology.

“When you look at how Copilot has been sold to our customers, it’s disappointing. It doesn’t work,” said Benioff. “It spews data all over our floors, it doesn’t deliver value. I haven’t found a customer who has transformational work with Copilot. Copilot is just the new Microsoft Clippy.”

Without a doubt, it’s understandable that the CEO of Salesforce may not be entirely impartial when discussing topics related to their competition. After all, Salesforce’s product, Agentforce, operates in the same market as Microsoft’s AI solution. In essence, Agentforce assists users in developing personalized AI agents.

Many CEOs often endorse their own goods or belittle competitors, but Benioff was particularly straightforward about it. We’ll need to wait and see if Salesforce CEO’s assertion that Copilot won’t last long proves accurate.

“Elon Musk is Superhuman,” says NVIDIA CEO

If someone mentioned that a tech CEO called Elon Musk “superhuman,” you might naturally think that Musk himself made such a compliment. However, in a recent conversation, it was actually the CEO of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, who praised Musk for his work on artificial intelligence.

From what I’ve gathered, it seems that only one individual possesses such skills: Elon. His expertise encompasses engineering, construction, managing large systems, and mobilizing resources – it’s almost hard to believe!

Huang commended Musk for the swift establishment of a potent supercomputer by his xAI team in just 19 days, an accomplishment that NVIDIA’s CEO noted would typically take years instead of weeks. He further highlighted the immense complexity involved in creating such a supercluster, which comprises 100,000 H200 Blackwell GPUs, encompassing intricate networking, wiring, and engineering tasks.

Typically, I tell people online that complimenting Musk won’t lead to job offers from him, but in this case, it seems different. NVIDIA frequently collaborates with Musk on various projects, such as the xAI team working together across engineering, networking, infrastructure, and software. So, flattering Musk could indeed be an effective strategy for NVIDIA’s CEO.

Qualcomm cancels Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit

Originally planned for consumer release and reviews this week, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit has been canceled by the manufacturer instead. A select few were fortunate to obtain a Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit, but the majority of those who pre-ordered the mini PC will not receive their units.

This week, Qualcomm sent out emails explaining that the Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit failed to reach their typical high-quality standards. Consequently, they have decided to discontinue the product and will reimburse everyone who bought a unit.

Those who made an order for the Snapdragon X Elite Dev Kit will receive a refund, regardless of whether or not they have already received the device. Initially planned for shipping in June, the dev kit encountered delays that ultimately led to it never being sent out.

The Snapdragon X Elite Developer Kit encountered several obstacles during its production phase. For instance, a crucial HDMI port was taken out at the final hour, and unfortunately, Qualcomm didn’t manage to clear Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations prior to distributing the devices.

Among the Snapdragon X Elite-powered PCs that exist, Qualcomm’s developer kit was uniquely designed to operate using the premium X Elite system-on-chip (the X1E-00-1DE), boasting a higher overclock speed of 4.3GHz.

Microsoft shadow drops two Xbox games

During Microsoft’s October Xbox Partner Preview event, while most announcements centered around upcoming games, they also stealthily revealed a couple of titles. The games, Blindfire and Animal Well, can now be played on the Xbox Series X|S, with Blindfire currently available in early access.

In “Blindfire,” players engage in competitive shooting battles, but with an innovative twist: instead of controlling characters directly, you manage cameras and traps within the arena. Defeated players don’t have to sit on the sidelines; they can take revenge against those who defeated them, assist specific players, or support a particular team (the game offers both single-player and multiplayer modes).

Earlier this year, Animal Crossing debuted for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Now, it has been introduced on Xbox Series X|S, making it accessible for players within the Xbox community to enjoy this Metroidvania-style platformer game.

Reviews

Last week, our Leading Editor, Ben Wilson, took control (of something), specifically. He evaluated the MOZA R3 racing wheel and gave it a top rating.

Wilson stated, “There’s no equivalent to MOZA’s sim racing experience for Xbox gamers seeking ultra-realistic gameplay with a premium direct-drive wheelbase. While some alternatives support PlayStation, they overlook Xbox users. Notably, many peripherals passively offer PC compatibility as well. In the end, it stands out as the top racing wheel for Xbox due to its exceptional value and cutting-edge force feedback technology.

As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that ReFantazio received top grades from me, Zachary Boddy. I was blown away by its superb world-creation and storytelling structure, the characters and relationships were captivating and engaging, and the tactical turn-based combat was a blast with its flexible strategies.

Boddy kicked off their review by saying ” Metaphor: ReFantazio has cemented itself as the best game I’ve played this year so far.” That’s quite the praise from someone who spends hours playing the best Xbox games.

Deals

Even though Prime Day and its counterpart have passed, there’s still an abundance of fantastic deals available. The Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge and the Dell XPS offer excellent chances for an upgrade to a new laptop at reduced prices. Moreover, you can take advantage of significant savings on mini PCs, gaming desktops, and various other items as well.
