Is Fortnite down? How to check server status in UK and beyond

As a dedicated Fortnite fanatic who has weathered countless storms and battles since its inception, I can say that server downtime is as much a part of the game as loot boxes and dance emotes. Today’s scheduled maintenance for the new season, Absolute Doom, is just another day in Paradise… or rather, Downtown.

Whenever you’re struggling to get into Fortnite, there’s a strong chance that the servers are down.

From my years of working with technology, I have learned that unexpected problems can arise at any time, and they can cause inconvenience to us users. However, there are also scheduled downtimes for servers, during which essential patches and updates are applied to ensure smooth functioning in the future. This is a necessary aspect of maintaining any digital service, but it’s never easy when we have to deal with it. I remember a time when our email server went down unexpectedly on a Monday morning, causing hours of frustration for everyone trying to get their work done. On the other hand, there was also that scheduled downtime for our CRM system last month, which, though annoying, only lasted a few hours and resulted in improved performance afterwards. So, while it can be frustrating to deal with either situation, I know from experience that these disruptions are often necessary for long-term stability and efficiency.

Today (Friday 16th August 2024), Fortnite fans knew to expect some downtime.

The reason for this is the arrival of the latest Fortnite season, titled Absolute Doom, which introduces numerous Marvel-themed skins, such as Gwenpool, within the game. For a sneak peek at these new costumes, be sure to watch the video provided above.

In addition to Battle Royale, it appears that LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, Fortnite Creative, and Rocket Racing may also be impacted by this update.

When Fortnite experiences downtime, its entire network of activities comes to an abrupt stop, leaving you with some spare time for alternative activities over the next couple of hours. Continue reading to discover more!
