I’m thrilled to share that Chris Lang, the mastermind behind Unforgotten, is debuting a fresh, genre-blending drama titled I, Jack Wright on Alibi this month. As a fan, I can hardly wait!
I’m thrilled to delve into this fresh series that boasts an impressive ensemble including Nikki Amuka-Bird, Harry Lloyd, John Simm, Daniel Rigby, Zoë Tapper, and James Fleet. The story unfolds post the alleged suicide of the wealthy Jack Wright, a twist that promises to keep me on the edge of my seat.
As a heated reading of the will ignites family tension, the authorities grow increasingly suspicious that a crime, possibly murder, has been committed, casting a glaring light on everyone involved.
In every episode, there are opening and closing interviews featuring each main character. Recently, during a screening and Q&A session for the show, Lang revealed his reasons behind employing this dramatic technique.
He noted that with all the true crime series we see on television, it’s becoming more difficult to distinguish between a true crime documentary and a dramatized version of such events.
I’ve tried out both approaches, and I found it intriguing to add an element that might provoke viewers to question, “Wait a moment, could this be a true tale?
It concludes it elegantly, offering a fresh viewpoint on past events. It sets the stage for further exploration, leaving you curious about their journeys: ‘Here’s where they are now. But how did they get here? How did she wind up in prison? How did he end up in a homeless shelter?’ These are the questions that arise.
Furthermore, this also allowed me to pen a small concluding passage or moral lesson from Nikki’s perspective at the close of every episode, intended to intrigue viewers about what would happen next and leave tantalizing hints that would entice them to return.
