Is Insomniac’s Venom Game Happening or What?

As a die-hard Marvel fan who has been following the gaming world for over two decades, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism about the rumored Venom game in development at Insomniac Games. Having grown up with Spider-Man comics and games, I was thrilled to hear that the studio behind Marvel’s Spider-Man series on PlayStation was working on a standalone Venom title. The idea of exploring the complexities of this anti-hero in a video game is intriguing, especially given Insomniac’s knack for creating immersive and engaging storylines.

However, my enthusiasm has been tempered by the lack of official news about the project since its initial leak at the end of 2023. With 2024 now behind us and no updates on Marvel’s Venom, I find myself questioning whether this game is actually in development or if it was just a rumor that never materialized. The fact that Marvel’s Wolverine is planned for 2026 makes me even more curious about the timeline of Venom’s release, as it would be unusual for a game to come out before its sequel.

In short, while I remain hopeful that Marvel’s Venom will one day become a reality, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever hear more about this project and when we might finally get to play as the symbiote ourselves. Only time will tell if Insomniac Games has something up their sleeves for us Marvel fans!

As a longtime fan of Insomniac Games and their incredible work on Marvel’s Spider-Man, I must admit that this year has been rather underwhelming for me. While I was thrilled to hear about the upcoming PC release of Spider-Man 2, scheduled for January, it seems that the studio hasn’t been as active as usual in sharing updates regarding their other projects. The only other significant news we’ve received this year has been a few updates on Spider-Man 2 featuring new suits, but I can’t help but feel a bit let down given my high expectations for Insomniac.

One project that I am particularly eager to learn more about is Marvel’s Wolverine, and it’s disappointing that there hasn’t been any substantial news about its development. As someone who has been following the gaming industry for quite some time now, I understand that the creative process can be complex, but I can’t help but wonder what Insomniac is working on behind closed doors.

In short, while I appreciate the updates they have provided, I find myself hoping that 2025 will bring more exciting news and developments from Insomniac Games, especially with regards to Marvel’s Wolverine.

In essence, it’s not unexpected that Insomniac Games has kept a low profile this year following the significant data breach they experienced due to a hack. Given the incident, it seems reasonable that their primary concern has shifted towards maintaining the security of their team members and strengthening their defenses against potential future cyber threats.

Even though I can’t help but ponder over the next move by Insomniac Games, especially after the recent revelations following their major leak. Frankly, I had anticipated that they would be more open about it and possibly confirm earlier rather than later that they were developing a standalone Venom game, given the widespread speculation. However, this year, we didn’t get any confirmation, which seems somewhat unusual to me.

It’s puzzling that Insomniac Games hasn’t unveiled the title of “Venom: Lethal Protector” yet, leading me to wonder if this project is still underway. Granted, it’s a stretch to assume that Venom could be completely abandoned due to some unknown factor, but history has shown us that projects can indeed vanish without a trace. For instance, Insomniac had initially planned a multiplayer Spider-Man game which was eventually cancelled. Given what we know about the Venom game, it seems more likely to be released compared to the experimental multiplayer Spider-Man project.

It’s quite possible that the game Marvel’s Venom continues to exist and is anticipated to release on PS5 by 2025. Insomniac Games might be aiming for a swift transition from announcement to launch, similar to what they did with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020. The Miles Morales spin-off was initially revealed in June 2020 and hit the shelves five months later, coinciding with the PS5 release in November. If a similar strategy is being used for Venom, we might learn about it in the coming months, potentially leading to its launch by late summer or fall.

Until then, I’ll keep pondering what a Venom game from Insomniac might resemble. Even a small expansion of the short Venom section in Spider-Man 2, where players could control Venom, would be enough to grab my attention. Let’s cross our fingers that we get some news (and a glimpse) of the game sooner rather than later.
