007: First Light was officially confirmed for a 2026 release during Sony’s latest PlayStation State of Play. The intriguing cinematic trailer promises a fresh take on James Bond’s backstory, leaving fans curious, including Xbox players who are questioning the game’s exclusivity status. While the PlayStation trailer doesn’t show any Xbox branding, IO Interactive’s YouTube channel confirms that First Light will indeed be available on Xbox Series X|S, alongside PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam when it launches in 2026.
What is 007 First Light?
To date, it’s been established that the James Bond game in question is an action-adventure with a narrative focus, played from a third-person perspective. The developers IO Interactive are well-known for their work on the renowned Hitman series.
First Light presents an alternate take on James Bond’s early years, placing players as a 26-year-old Royal Navy air crewman embarking on his spying career.
The game integrates stealth, combat, and decision-making gameplay elements as Bond goes through MI6’s rigorous 00 training program, interacts with characters like M and Q, and journeys around the world meeting friends, foes, and those whose motives are ambiguous.
A significant technological aspect, according to the PS Blog, is that 007 First Light will be optimized for the PS5 Pro, offering 60fps in Quality mode due to Sony’s new PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) AI upscaling. The Xbox Series X is expected to deliver similar performance improvements, but specific details are yet to be disclosed.
Who plays James Bond in 007 First Light?
While an official announcement has yet to be made, there’s a strong consensus among many that James Bond, in future films, will be portrayed by Patrick Gibson, a well-known Irish actor recognized for his role in Dexter: Original Sin. However, the identity of the new James Bond for the movie series is still unknown and eagerly anticipated by fans.
Is 007 First Light on Xbox Game Pass?
007 First Light isn’t making its way to Xbox Game Pass at the moment, and it seems highly improbable that it will be available at launch. The game is being produced by IO Interactive in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, and neither party has a track record of releasing big titles on Game Pass on day one.
If you’re eager to uncover Bond’s backstory, keep in mind that you’ll need to buy the game independently for your Xbox.
