Is John Lithgow the New Dumbledore in HBO’s Harry Potter TV Series?

Accio Harry Potter cast details.

HBO offered a peek behind the scenes of its upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series, fueling rumors that John Lithgow, renowned for roles in shows like “Dexter” and films including “Conclave” and “Interstellar,” is close to signing on to play Professor Albus Dumbledore. The series is slated for release in 2026.

HBO acknowledges that the upcoming high-profile series may generate much talk and conjecture,” HBO stated in a February 12 response to Deadline. “During the pre-production phase, we will only verify information once we’ve sealed the deals.

TopMob News reached out to HBO and a rep for Lithgow for comment but has not heard back.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that although HBO hasn’t officially announced who will step into the legendary shoes of Dumbledore, previously portrayed by the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter film series from 2001-2011, they’ve certainly been sprinkling some enchanting details about their highly anticipated adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s work. This magical journey is said to span over a decade!

Firstly, Francesca Gardiner, known for penning dramas like “His Dark Materials” and “The Rook,” is responsible for developing the series and will oversee it as the showrunner.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that the director of the 2022 psychological thriller “The Menu,” Mark Mylod, will be in charge of directing and serving as an executive producer for the upcoming series.

Book enthusiasts are bound to appreciate HBO’s approach to the series, for the producers declared in a 2023 press statement that their adaptation will remain true to J.K. Rowling’s books.

As a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I can’t help but wonder if Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, and Ralph Fiennes will be gracing us with their presence at Hogwarts once more. But here’s the thing, folks – according to our beloved Harry himself, it might not be wise to pin too many hopes on a return to the magical world just yet.

He shared with TopMob News in May that he believes they are aiming for a sensible, complete separation. He also expressed doubt about the feasibility of our involvement in any such arrangement.

Radcliffe continued, “I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”

While it’s not definitive that he won’t return to the wizarding world, his response hints at uncertainty. At 35 years old, he was evasive about what he would do if asked to appear on HBO again.

“I’m gonna be a politician about this,” he quipped, “and not deal in hypotheticals.”
