Mariska Hargitay isn’t ready to say goodbye to Detective Olivia Benson just yet.
Of course, just because I’ve been a familiar face on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for all these years doesn’t mean I haven’t given thought to what my future might hold once I decide to say goodbye to this beloved NBC series. After all, every ending signals a new beginning!
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News, Mariska shared her thoughts on the topic. She hasn’t made a decision yet, but she has considered it further down the line. However, she remains open to possibilities.
However, the 60-year-old knows she’ll stay just as busy after she gives up her character’s badge.
Mariska mentioned, “I’m quite busy and involved in multiple projects,” she said. “I go where life leads me. I believe everything will work out for the best, and I’ll end up where I belong. I’m fully invested and content with my role on SVU at the moment, and there are certainly goals and challenges that excite me.
It appears that her significant revelation might be made earlier rather than later, given that she’s working on something secretive: “I will make a major announcement in January.
Until then, she’s fighting crime on screen—and making the real world a better place.
Beyond running her Joyful Heart Foundation, dedicated to healing, educating, and empowering survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, she has also recently collaborated with Purina on their Purple Leash Project. This initiative aims to make domestic violence shelters nationwide welcoming for pets.
She mentioned one striking statistic: approximately 89% of individuals who experienced domestic violence reported instances where their pets were threatened or harmed. Abusers often employ this tactic as a means of control and manipulation, using their pets as tools for intimidation and even weapons.
Mariska said, “It amazed me that in such a perilous scenario, the question of whether or not your pet could accompany you was astounding. The idea that they’re striving to make shelters pet-friendly, ensuring no survivor ever has to sacrifice their pet for their own safety, seemed remarkable to me.
