As a long-time observer of the fascinating intersection between fast food and anime, I must say that the latest development between McDonald’s and Neon Genesis Evangelion has me both intrigued and slightly bewildered. Having witnessed the evolution of this partnership from Yu-Gi-Oh! to Jujutsu Kaisen, and now potentially to Evangelion, it seems the culinary realm is no longer just about burgers and fries – it’s about giant robots and apocalyptic battles too!
Recently, McDonald’s has been deeply involved in the anime scene, particularly in North America where they have collaborated with popular series like “Yu-Gi-Oh!”, “Jujutsu Kaisen”, Sanrio, and even developed their own anime universe. In Japan, they frequently partner with major anime franchises such as “Dragon Ball” and “One Piece”, among many others. A potential unexpected collaboration might be in the works as Ronald McDonald could potentially pilot an EVA Unit for a crossover with “Neon Genesis Evangelion”.
The most recent addition in the Evangelion series was the movie titled “Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time,” marking the conclusion of the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. As for the future, it’s uncertain if this popular anime franchise will produce another project. Interestingly enough, Hideaki Anno, the creator of Evangelion, has decided to explore another mech franchise – Mobile Suit Gundam. This was confirmed earlier in the year, with Anno expressing his intent to tackle the challenging-to-pronounce series, “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.” Unlike the narrative of NERV, this new series is expected to revolve around young pilots and their mechs, but it will undoubtedly be distinct from the Evangelion storyline.

As an excited fan, I can’t help but notice the intriguing hints dropped by McDonald’s on their social media platforms lately! The use of Kanji and a “Project EVA” copyright in one of their images has sparked speculation about a potential collaboration with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Although it’s not yet confirmed, I can imagine the iconic NERV pilots munching on food items inspired by the series! It seems McDonald’s is following the trend they set with Jujutsu Kaisen, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned for more updates.

Hideaki Anno’s McDonald’s-Less Future
After wrapping up the Evangelion film series, Anno took some time off, leading many anime enthusiasts to speculate whether he might leave entertainment altogether. However, he’s been busy creating a live-action Shin Universe, encompassing revamped versions of Godzilla, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider. Although it’s confirmed that Anno will collaborate with the Gundam universe, the future of the Shin Universe is uncertain. If a partnership between McDonald’s and Evangelion were to materialize, one can only imagine what Hideaki would think as the characters from NERV potentially enter the realm of Ronald McDonald.
Back in the early part of the year, McDonald’s teamed up with Studio Pierrot to develop an anime universe called “WcDonald’s.” This campaign being focused on North America underscores the growing global influence of anime in today’s world. Essentially, any cross-over involving anime could potentially happen anywhere on the globe.
