In the upcoming “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start,” there’s speculation that a new cast member has been added, potentially signaling the introduction of Miles Morales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As production on “Spider-Man 4” gets ready to commence, initial cast confirmations are surfacing. Tom Holland and Zendaya will return as Peter Parker and M.J., respectively, while Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things” has been tapped for an unspecified role.
There’s widespread anticipation that Morales might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Spider-Man 4” potentially serving as the conclusion to the “Spider-Verse” trilogy in 2027. Notably, one of the casting calls has mentioned a search for a “resourceful young man in his early twenties,” leading some to suspect that this could be hinting at the introduction of the second Spider-Man character.
As per a report from Deadline, actress Liza Colón-Zayas has finalized an agreement to feature in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Although details about her character are still secret, it’s hinted that she could have connections with Miles Morales, potentially paving the way for his entry into the MCU as a new Spider-Man.
Colón-Zayas hails from the Bronx, New York, yet her roots trace back to Puerto Rico, as her grandmother is of Puerto Rican descent. It’s worth noting that Miles Morales shares half Puerto Rican heritage with his mother, Rio, who was born in Puerto Rico and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
It’s important to mention that, while it’s currently only a theory, Colón-Zayas might be playing Rio Morales. However, this doesn’t automatically mean that her upcoming super-powered son will be part of the storyline in Brand New Day.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Aaron Davis, also known as the Prowler, was introduced in the 2017 film “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” This character was portrayed by actor Donald Glover, who is famous for his work on “Atlanta.” In a scene that wasn’t included in the final cut of the movie, Aaron Davis referenced having a “nephew.” However, as of now, there has been no further development or appearance of this “nephew” (presumably Miles Morales) in the MCU.
When Will Miles Morales Join the MCU?
According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, once Miles Morales finishes his animated adventures in “Beyond the Spider-Verse,” it’s expected that he will appear in live-action within the MCU not long after.
In July 2026, we can expect the release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“, with no sign of “Spider-Verse 3” until June 2027. This suggests that Spider-Man may not appear in live-action anytime soon. However, actress Liza Colón-Zayas might still make an appearance as Rio Morales, subtly hinting at her son’s future involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially in “Spider-Man 5“.
In another scenario, an earlier audition call was looking for a “female antagonist” who was between “30s-50s” and of any ethnicity. At 52 years old, Colón-Zayas meets these requirements for the villainous role, even though she’s on the older end, suggesting that she might not be connected to Miles and could instead portray this intriguing adversary.
Despite any upcoming changes, with Miles Morales’ fame escalating and the Spider-Verse trilogy drawing to a close, it won’t take much longer for fans to witness him in live-action. As Tom Holland approaches nearly a decade in his Spider-Man role, he might be considering retiring the web shooters soon. At that point, the responsibility will likely pass to another character.
