Is One Piece Setting Up for a New Timeskip?

As a seasoned One Piece gamer with over two decades worth of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest developments in the series have left me utterly bewildered and intrigued! The tease of Elbaf has been a tantalizing mystery for years, and now that we’re finally getting a glimpse into its secrets, it seems there are more questions than answers.

After more than two decades since its initial hint in Eiichiro Oda’s original manga, One Piece has finally guided Luffy and the Straw Hats to Elbaf. The series seems poised for a major transformation with an unforeseen time skip approaching. We are now embarking on the early phases of the second act in the Final Saga of the manga, where some of the series’ most significant secrets will be unveiled as Luffy and his crew inch ever closer to the One Piece treasure. However, their journey may take significantly longer than anticipated.

For a while now, “One Piece” has hinted at Elbaf being a crucial island for the series’ history. With the manga recently disclosing more about this island, some intriguing aspects are becoming noticeable. Not only is it known to have an ideal climate that enables ships and other objects to traverse on top of them, but there was also a foreboding warning suggesting “lost time” would occur while there. It appears that “One Piece” might fast-forward several years when Luffy and his companions eventually depart.

One Piece Teases “Lost Time” That They’ll Regret

In Chapter 1132 of One Piece, Luffy and the Straw Hat crew are finally together again on Elbaf, where a text by Louis Arnote, who named Little Garden, starts to appear. The description of the colossal flora and fauna on Elbaf is awe-inspiring, but Arnote cautions that there’s a more significant threat lurking on the island for visitors to be aware of. He advises, “Explorers, don’t regret your time here…Don’t outstay your welcome here.” This warning carries an ominous tone, and one can only wonder what it might entail.

The “mystery of elapsed time” is what makes it so intriguing. It’s phrased in a way that suggests something more enigmatic than just describing the island. Instead of cautioning adventurers about enjoying themselves too much on the island or expressing awe at its beauty, it appears to be hinting at Elbaf operating on a different temporal plane than the neighboring seas. This could potentially connect to how the unique climate and other conditions of the island contribute to its distinctiveness.

One Piece Has a Different Kind of Timeskip on the Way

One Piece’s time skip is one of the most impactful transitions in the series’ timeline. This pivotal moment in the story left a lasting impression, with the initial redesigns of the Straw Hats being widely used in promotional materials, games, and other media for years afterward. As we approach the climax of the story, it appears another time skip is on the horizon. Unlike the previous skip, where Luffy and his crew underwent significant transformations after their time apart, this time it seems as though the world will change while Luffy and the others are on Elbaf.

Just as I was engrossed in the events unfolding on Wano Island when the rest of the Grand Line underwent significant transformations, Elbaf seems to exist in its own time bubble. It’s no secret that they don’t seem too concerned about news from beyond their borders, save for the occasional mention like Luffy’s victory over Big Mom on Wano. However, there’s a peculiar tone in Arnote’s message that makes me wonder if time moves differently on Elbaf compared to the rest of the world. It could be that minutes pass as hours, or perhaps even days as weeks, on this colossal island.

The unusual climate of the place sets it apart from other seas, and being on a massive tree top makes the Straw Hats even more distant from usual Elbaf docking spots. It appears that this time, it’s not just Luffy and his crew who are changing, but rather we’ll witness the rest of the seas progressing through the years. The island seems to be hinting at some form of time dilation, although the specifics remain a mystery for now. This foreshadows significant changes in the seas compared to our last encounter.

Due to Dr. Vegapunk’s warning that sea levels are increasing annually, the world may undergo significant changes when Luffy returns from Elbaf. If time passes more slowly on the island and Luffy discovers that several years have elapsed while he was away, it’s plausible that the other Four Emperors could make significant progress towards finding the One Piece during this time. Now, we need to determine just how much of a difference in time this might entail.
