Is South of Midnight on Xbox Game Pass?

Absolutely! Starting from April 8, South of Midnight will be playable on Xbox Game Pass. But, if you’re eager to join the Early Access phase commencing on April 3, you’ll need to invest in the Premium Edition of this Xbox and PC exclusive title.

South of Midnight is headed to Xbox Game Pass …

2025 has been an exceptional year for gaming so far, despite being just three months in, offering a wealth of exciting titles such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the highly-anticipated RPG, and the amusing indie co-op horror game R.E.P.O. Furthermore, there’s another great title on its way, South of Midnight, an action-adventure game developed by Compulsion Games (creators of Contrast and We Happy Few). It’s slated for official release on April 8 for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.

In the Deep South of America, the game “South of Midnight” places you in the role of Hazel, a resilient young woman whose life changes drastically after a hurricane ravages her home, Prospero. As enigmatic supernatural beings from Southern mythology and folklore start emerging, Hazel uses her special Weaver skills to face these entities. Meanwhile, she embarks on a journey to unravel the mysteries surrounding her family’s past.

Curious about South of Midnight, a game with roots in American folklore and captivating stop-motion aesthetic, many people are questioning if it’s available on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. For those who might not know, this service offers access to numerous games for a monthly fee.

Thanks to Microsoft purchasing Compulsion Games for Xbox in 2018, South of Midnight is now a first-party Xbox game, which means it will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass on its release day, encompassing PC Game Pass for Windows PCs and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for both Xbox and PC platforms (and Xbox Cloud Gaming as well). However, it’s important to note that the game’s Xbox store page indicates it won’t initially be available on the console-only Xbox Game Pass Standard tier at launch; nonetheless, it may become accessible on this tier in the future.

… but you won’t get Early Access with it

The game “South of Midnight” will be available on Xbox Game Pass, which is excellent news for subscribers of Microsoft’s extensive gaming service. However, a key point to consider is that playing it through this program means you won’t receive Early Access to the title because none of the Game Pass tiers offer it as a perk.

To get an early start on playing South of Midnight on April 3, you should opt for the Premium Edition of the game. This version costs $10 more than the standard edition, priced at $49.99 instead of $39.99. In return, you’ll receive Early Access, along with extras such as a digital artbook, soundtrack, a Rob Guillory comic book named “The Boo-Hag” about the game’s world, a South of Midnight music video, and a documentary detailing the game’s development process.

As for myself, I’m looking forward to diving into South of Midnight, but I generally prefer to wait for the standard release rather than splurging on early access versions (although, truth be told, FromSoftware might just convince me otherwise). However, the additional perks do seem appealing, and with a preorder offer, you can grab the Premium Edition at CDKeys for a discounted price of $45.49, rather than the full $49.99. It’s also worth noting that the standard version is available at CDKeys for an even lower price of $34.39. So, consider this if you’re leaning towards buying it instead of playing through Game Pass.
