Is THIS MCU Character SECRETLY Songbird?

A fresh hypothesis proposes who could be the ideal addition to the upcoming lineup of the New Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following their appearance in the Thunderbolts. This may seem unexpected, considering the team’s bond was established on a familial-like basis. However, an imminent cosmic catastrophe and internal conflict within the Avengers could necessitate expansion. Since the hero didn’t debut with the Thunderbolts/New Avengers in their own Phase 5 film, this theory implies that the team might expand in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”.

Geraldine Viswanathan first appeared in the MCU as Mel, a key character alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Thunderbolts. Some speculative theories posit that she might be none other than Melissa Gold, a well-known character from Marvel Comics known as Songbird.

On Reddit, a theory has been proposed based on earlier discussions about Mel’s real character. In Thunderbolts, Mel consistently wears a necklace with a bird charm, leading many to speculate about her identity as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Songbird. If this theory becomes true and Viswanathan assumes the role of Songbird, she could have a promising career in the MCU, particularly if she joins the New Avengers during Phase 6. This development would not only boost Mel but also strengthen the abilities and knowledge of the New Avengers team as a whole.

In 1979, the character Melissa Gold, initially known as Screaming Mimi, was introduced in Marvel Comics through “Marvel Two-in-One #54.” Initially serving as a villain, her stint with the original Thunderbolts, a team that started out disguising themselves as villains under Baron Zemo but eventually transformed into genuine heroes, caused significant changes for Melissa and many of her fellow team members. Adopting the name Songbird, Melissa Gold became a regular member of various Thunderbolts teams. Given this background, it’s plausible that she will make her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) within the “Thunderbolts” movie, and there’s a possibility she might even join the team.

In the story of Thunderbolts, there was no evident display of superpowers by my character, Viswanathan’s Mel, and it didn’t happen during that particular arc. However, I find it intriguing to speculate that Marvel Studios might be setting up Mel for a powerful role in the MCU’s future. This could significantly strengthen the New Avengers/Thunderbolts team, which, at present, lacks diversity in their powerset. The inclusion of Songbird could alter this, as her abilities would add much-needed variety to the group. At the moment, the New Avengers are primarily composed of super-soldiers like Bucky Barnes, US Agent, and Red Guardian. However, if Mel were to join, she could bring fresh dynamics to our team composition.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’ve always been captivated by the intriguing characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Among them, Songbird stands out with her extraordinary abilities. In the comic books, her bionically enhanced vocal cords let her unleash sonic screams of devastating power, sculpt solid structures using sound, and possess perfect pitch.

Add to that Ghost’s (Hannah John-Kamen) remarkable phasing abilities and Sentry’s (Lewis Pullman) unpredictable array of powers, and Songbird becomes a truly unique and engaging addition to the New Avengers team.

Following the events of *Thunderbolts*, there’s been much speculation about potential changes in the team’s composition. If Geraldine Viswanathan were to embody the MCU’s Songbird, she could bring a fresh, captivating dynamic to the team.
