Is This the Footage Responsible for WWE Taking Down an AEW Video?

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who has witnessed the highs and lows of the industry, I can’t help but be captivated by the ongoing saga between Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson. It’s not every day that we get to see legends from the early days of Ring of Honor square off once again, especially after a decade-long hiatus.

This afternoon, wrestling enthusiasts started noticing that a significant part of the story between AEW’s Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson, which was previously on YouTube, had mysteriously disappeared. Some speculated that this could be due to a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) claim made by WWE, leading to the video’s removal from AEW’s YouTube channel. However, it’s possible that the circumstances might not be as sinister as they seem. McGuinness spent several years working for WWE as a commentator, and during this time, there was a special showcase of his Ring of Honor career on the WWE Network. He also participated in a Roundtable discussion with Seth Rollins and Cesaro for Ring of Honor. Since a lot of Ring of Honor footage was included in the special program, it’s plausible that WWE’s systems might have mistakenly flagged the footage if it turned out to be the same.

With Tony Khan now holding both AEW presidency and Ring of Honor ownership, it appears the video footage has returned to the channel swiftly. The long-standing rivalry between McGuinness and Danielson will culminate one final time at AEW Grand Slam in New York, assuming Danielson receives clearance for wrestling. This feud was pivotal during ROH’s early phase, and their last encounter in the ring dates back to 2009.

At the recent AEW Collision event, McGuinness confronted Danielson one last time before their upcoming fight. He accused the current AEW World Champion of feigning injury and suggested that Danielson’s reluctance to accept the challenge stems from fear of McGuinness. In the lead-up to their match, McGuinness has been granting interviews about his decision to come out of retirement at AEW All In, and now he’s gearing up for a battle with his most formidable adversary.

Nigel McGuinness Reveals Real Reason He Retired

McGuinness explained his retirement in 2011 to TVInsider, stating that his departure from wrestling was solely due to the fact that he could no longer earn a livable income as a wrestler. He mentioned that although he could have returned to Ring of Honor and continued wrestling, it wouldn’t have been financially viable enough to cover even basic health insurance, let alone save for his future. He added that the style in Ring of Honor wasn’t suitable for him, WWE showed no interest due to an old arm injury, and he had reservations about going back to TNA given past experiences. In essence, McGuinness emphasized that there were no other options available at the time for him to make a living through wrestling, leaving him with no choice but to retire.
