Is Weapon Durability the Game-Changer in Blades of Fire?

In their latest update, the creators of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – MercurySteam – have shared another gameplay video featuring Blades of Fire, offering a deeper look at the game’s battle and weapon mechanics.

In our previous post, it was pointed out that this game shares a similar feel with God of War (2018), yet in terms of mechanics, Blades of Fire distinguishes itself.

For instance, in this game, you have the option to attack four distinct areas of your adversary by pressing the four face buttons. This feature brings an engaging complexity to battles overall. It appears that skillfully controlling your stamina bar is crucial since each action consumes a certain amount of energy.

However, let’s delve into a more flavorful discussion – the aspect of weapon durability in Blades of Fire. Hopefully for the best (fingers crossed), this game gives significance to maintaining the condition of your weapons.

As you employ weapons, their resilience lessens progressively. It’s possible to mend them temporarily with a sharpening stone in the field, yet this act will decrease their overall lifespan. To bring back a weapon’s original brilliance, you need to locate an anvil and reforge it yourself; however, this process can be done only a certain number of times.

In some instances, we find ourselves grappling with the concept of durability systems. On one hand, they can hold significant value – like when incorporated into the framework of a survival game – but on the other, they may simply turn into a nuisance.

I’m really crossing my fingers that Blades of Fire strikes the perfect equilibrium, as creating my very own tools of mayhem is undeniably a fundamental aspect of the game’s blacksmithing essence, from my perspective as an enthusiastic player.
