As a lifelong fan of WWE, I must say that this recent deal with Netflix has me absolutely thrilled! The prospect of unlimited access to my favorite shows, including Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, is a dream come true. And the possibility of exclusive content? Count me in!
Ever since WWE unveiled their partnership with Netflix this year, there’s been a buzz about the potential return of uncensored content. Could we soon hear our favorite wrestlers dropping F-bombs again? What would a Monday Night Raw episode look like without any broadcast limitations? Well, let me quell your curiosity. WWE President Nick Khan has clarified that speculation. It appears their programming’s rating will stay as it is on the USA Network – maintaining its advertiser and family-friendly image.
During a joint WWE-Netflix press event, Khan stated that they won’t be altering the rating of their content. There have been rumors about it becoming R-rated or even X-rated, but rest assured, this is not in the cards. Instead, expect family-friendly, multi-generational, and advertiser-friendly programming. As the partnership between WWE and Netflix deepens, you can anticipate more international influences in the content. (Paraphrased from Sports Illustrated)
WWE Monday Night Raw on Netflix
Beginning on January 6th, the popular WWE Raw program will make its home on Netflix, as part of a massive $5 billion agreement spanning a decade between the two entities. This deal encompasses not only the flagship show, but also international streaming availability for Raw, SmackDown, PLEs (Pay-Per-View Events), and NXT across the globe. In the U.S., however, Peacock will retain rights to PLEs until 2026. Moreover, it’s been hinted that there may be some unique, Netflix-exclusive content in the works as well.
In the premiere, some big-time wrestlers have already locked in their appearances – that’d be Bianca Belair, John Cena, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and none other than the current undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. I can hardly wait!
At the same event, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque spoke about the current phase of sports entertainment, describing it as a period that is revolutionizing the field.
Triple H expressed that the current period in WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) – one he experienced during the Attitude Era’s height, similar to your own – wasn’t fully comprehended at the time. However, reflecting on it now, he sees this as a distinct era, larger in scope compared to previous ones. He believes it will be remembered not as the Triple H Era, but rather as the ‘Netflix Era’, since it represents a significant transformation within the industry.
