In spring 2025, the FBI TV series will conclude its Season 7 run on May 20th, with Jeremy Sisto and Alana De La Garza delivering an intense performance. Despite this, CBS has already renewed the show for another season, making it unlike FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted which are ending. As I reflect on Season 7’s surprising turns, both actors provided intriguing insights when I interviewed them. Unbeknownst to me, Sisto also shared an amusing perspective regarding Isobel’s choice not to retire, while De La Garza offered her thoughts as well!
In the selfsame episode where Tom Cavanagh debuted as Isobel’s husband, the Chief in Charge of the Bureau discovered she had completed twenty years on the job, thus making her eligible for retirement with all due benefits. However, she chose to keep working as the Chief of 26 Fed instead. This decision was made much before a sneak peek at the Season 7 finale hinted at Isobel appearing injured, with a head wound, in the future. (The episode is currently available for streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.)
Before the Season 7 finale, has there been any moment where Isobel questions her choice to continue the risky job instead of retiring to a peaceful home with her spouse? I inquired about this with Alana De La Garza, and she revealed:
From what I can tell, Isobel isn’t likely to have any regrets about not stepping away. In essence, her passion for justice runs deep, and I believe she’ll continue to pursue it no matter the circumstances. Whether it’s a tough call or an easy one, or even if others don’t support her decision, she stays true to herself. So, I reckon she’s quite content with her journey, as time will tell. [laughs]
As a dedicated fan of crime-fighting stories, I’d like to propose the term “justice junkie” as a fitting label for all the characters engaged in crime-busting across the expansive Wolf Entertainment TV universe. The Season 7 finale, titled “A New Day,” seems set to push our investigative heroes, Isobel, Jubal, and their team, to their limits… that is, if we can trust the entire team, given the hints of infiltration by enemy operatives within the FBI.

Simply put, it appears that the FBI is gearing up for a thrilling finale in the seventh season. Meanwhile, Jeremy Sisto, playing ASAC Jubal Valentine, injected some laughter into Alana De La Garza discussing Isobel’s potential regrets by suggesting retirement plans. I must admit, their banter was delightful and engaging.
- Jeremy Sisto: “What would she do if she quit?”
- Alana De La Garza: “She would wither up and die. That’s what she would do.”
- Jeremy Sisto: “She joins some clubs.”
- Alana De La Garza: “Tennis club. We’ll pick a ball, maybe.”
- Jeremy Sisto: “You’ll work for the CIA, jump over to the CIA [set].”
Sisto mentioned the upcoming spin-off of the TV series FBI, titled CIA and featuring Tom Ellis, who was in Lucifer. These shows will air together on Monday nights in CBS’ 2025-2026 fall television schedule. Although viewers may hope for characters from cancelled shows like Most Wanted and International to appear on CIA, Sisto humorously suggested Isobel as a possibility, implying she could leave the FBI and join the CIA instead.
Moving to a more thoughtful topic, Sisto – boasting three seasons of Law & Order under his belt, portraying a TV detective – mused upon the challenges faced by law enforcement personnel and the decision to retire.
For detectives in general, when they quit, they’re kinda sad forever.
Will Isobel’s decision in the Season 7 finale or the start of Season 8 bring regret? Time will tell, but since CBS has already renewed FBI for Season 9, we can expect more of the series in the future. For now, take a look at the promo for “A New Day” and pay close attention to the head wound that caught my attention as soon as it appeared on screen, hinting at potential trouble for the SAC.
Don’t miss out! Catch the season finale of FBI on CBS this coming Tuesday, May 20th at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Discover if any recurring characters are secretly double agents. If you’d like to rewatch past episodes, they’re available for streaming on Paramount+ during the summer break. Unfortunately, CBS hasn’t announced a specific return date yet for Season 8, but rest assured that new FBI episodes will air again in the fall.
