As a dedicated follower of the world of cinema, I can’t help but admire Justin Baldoni‘s dedication and resilience. His journey from acting in “Jane the Virgin” to directing and starring in “It Ends With Us” is nothing short of inspiring. He not only brought Colleen Hoover’s novel to life on the big screen but also managed to create an impact that reaches far beyond the confines of a movie theater.
While this story might not end with just one film, Justin Baldoni isn’t thinking that far ahead.
Ever since the triumphant release of “It Ends With Us”, the cinematic rendition of Colleen Hoover’s enchanting tale, I’ve been swept away by the magic that Justin brought to life as both the director and a captivating cast member alongside the luminous Blake Lively and Brandon Skenlar – I can’t help but yearn for more! Yet, my heart skips a beat with each passing moment as I witness Justin immersed in the present, lost in the crafting of the next masterpiece rather than dwelling on the possibility of a sequel.
The former star of “Jane the Virgin” confessed, “I’ve been part of discussions about a potential sequel.” People frequently ask me about it. At this point, we are focusing on being present. I’m simply overwhelmed with gratitude for the lives that this show has touched and transformed.
He stated, “At present, we aren’t considering a sequel. Instead, we’re relishing the fact that this film, which has been in development for many years, is finally making an impact and will soon be available to a wide audience on Netflix. This is where we stand currently.” (Don’t forget to catch Justin tonight on TopMob News, December 5 at 11 p.m.)
Due to the impressive box office performance, “It Ends With Us” is set to stream on the streaming giant starting from Dec 9. For Justin, this move represents a significant step forward, enabling a larger audience to watch the film and experience its powerful message about a protagonist named Lily Bloom who experiences an abusive relationship.
He clarified that they aimed to create a film that would appeal particularly to women, allowing them to enjoy it together in theaters, while simultaneously reaching a wide audience through home viewing platforms. Their ultimate goal was for the movie to resonate with many people and provide support to those needing encouragement.
Justin also spoke to the impact the film has already had on viewers during its theatrical run.
The 40-year-old expressed immense appreciation. Making this film and sharing its powerful messages was a long journey for me. I’ve often stated that if just one person finds the courage to escape an abusive relationship after watching this movie, then all the effort was worth it. And as thousands upon thousands of heartfelt responses poured in, I can confidently say that goal has been achieved.
I expressed, “Our goal is to create films that resonate deeply, and witnessing its actual influence has left me speechless. I am simply overwhelmed with gratitude.
The movie wasn’t perfect and had its share of highs and lows. Despite the feud rumors between Blake and Justin during the movie promotion, which were quite public – though Justin has praised Blake for his dedication and creativity in interviews – Justin himself has spoken openly about the emotional strain he experienced while directing and playing the villain in the film.
He shared during the December 4th episode of the “How to Fail with Elizabeth Day” podcast that being a director is quite solitary. In essence, he was straightforward because, as the highest authority, you have many people looking to you for answers, yet no one wants to interrupt your quiet moments. There aren’t many individuals to confide in, and since you’re also the leader, it can be challenging to express your concerns or apprehensions about something due to the responsibility placed upon you.
Similarly, taking on the role of Lily’s abusive spouse, Ryle, had a profound impact on Justin’s psychological well-being as well.
He mentioned, “It’s quite unusual, not to mention taking charge while acting as a character similar to Ryle in the film. There were instances during filming when I felt so disoriented that I had to step away. I needed some time to clear my head.
Although he confessed that the character lingered within him for quite some time, even invading his dreams, and it took four months following filming to feel as if he had shaken off the role, Justin expressed, “It inhabited my being, but I believe I have managed to expel it mostly.
