It only took 10 years — we’re finally getting a sequel to the best survival-horror game

What you need to know

  • Alien: Isolation is a 2014 first-person survival-horror game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega.
  • The game is set after the events of the original Alien move, with players stepping into the shoes of Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley.
  • On the 10th anniversary of the game’s release, Creative Assembly creative director Alistair Hope shared the news that a sequel is now early in development.
  • More details are coming at a later date.

As a longtime fan of Alien, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news that Amanda Ripley is set to return in a sequel to Alien: Isolation. Ten years may have passed since the original game’s release, but it seems like just yesterday I was cowering behind vents and desperately trying to avoid the terrifying Xenomorph.

Ten long years, but Amanda Ripley looks to be returning.

Creative Assembly and Sega are developing a follow-up to their 2014 survival-horror game Alien: Isolation, as announced by Creative Director Alistair Hope on Monday. In a post reflecting on the original game, which is now ten years old, Hope expressed his admiration for the dedicated community and their enduring love for the game throughout its lifespan.

At present, neither the platform releases nor an official name have been disclosed for the upcoming Sega game, which is a follow-up to the multiplatform Alien: Isolation. However, given that it’s a Sega title and a sequel to a game available on multiple platforms, it’s logical to anticipate that Alien: Isolation 2 might be launched on Xbox, PlayStation, and Windows PC.

Alien: Isolation is an underrated gem

Though Creative Assembly is primarily recognized for their strategy-based Total War series, they ventured into the terrifying domain of first-person horror with Alien: Isolation.

“Alien: Isolation was an incredible game for me, offering a gripping blend of resource gathering and discovery set within a meticulously designed space station that perfectly captured the aesthetic, auditory, and ambiance of the initial Alien movie.

Ten years passed without any hint of a sequel, yet I was pleasantly surprised to discover one is on its way. I can hardly wait to find out more details, as I eagerly anticipate the continuation of Amanda Ripley’s story.

While we wait, let me recommend a thrilling watch: Alien: Romulus. As a tech enthusiast who adores the Alien series, I can’t help but sing its praises. It honors both the original Alien and its sequel, Aliens, while still managing to explore chilling new grounds for this enduring franchise. So, if you haven’t caught it yet, I strongly suggest you give it a watch!
