As a tech enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement as I witness the evolution of one of my all-time favorite franchises, Halo. The shift to Unreal Engine 5 and the rebranding of 343 Industries to Halo Studios is not just a change; it’s a new chapter in the saga of Master Chief and his battles against the Covenant and the ever-looming Forerunners.


There’s a big shift coming for Master Chief and company. 

At the Halo World Championship 2024, Pierre Hintze, head of 343 Industries, announced some major changes for the team. He disclosed that 343 Industries is undergoing a rebranding and will now be known as Halo Studios. The studio is actively recruiting for numerous Halo projects.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the Halo franchise is indeed transitioning to the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5, a shift initially hinted at more than a year back. For those eager to witness this transformation, the studio has shared an update video showcasing Project Foundry – an internal tech demo meticulously crafted to test the integration of Halo into Unreal Engine 5. According to lead artist Daniel Henly, the initial release of the Halo franchise served as a graphics benchmark, setting the standard at its highest. To maintain this legacy, he believes that Halo should once again embody that level of graphical excellence.

For the ongoing projects, the team at the current Halo Studios is planning to recruit individuals from various fields, all contributing to several Halo video games in development. At this stage, much of the work is still in its early stages, and the studio’s latest release, Halo Infinite, will continue receiving updates and new operations for an extended period.
