It Was Still Great!

The Office, a popular sitcom, remains an enduring influence on contemporary television. It centered around the amusing escapades of an office crew working for a paper supply firm under the leadership of Michael Scott, portrayed by Steve Carell.

As a devoted movie reviewer, I must say that Season 7 of “The Office” marked a significant shift when Steve Carell decided to part ways with the show. He yearned for more quality time with his loved ones and sought new professional challenges. Michael Scott’s departure was heartwarming in its own way – he bid adieu to Scranton to be with his soulmate, Holly, and embark on a beautiful journey of parenthood together. Yet, many fans found this ending less than satisfying.

Some viewers felt the series should have concluded after Steve Carell and Michael Scott departed, as they thought introducing new characters like Catherine Tate’s Nellie didn’t resonate well with the audience. However, The Office star Jenna Fischer argues that it was appropriate for the show to carry on.

She shared on the podcast that upon rewatching it, she found the series to be consistently excellent throughout. Previously, there seemed to be a common perception among the cast and crew that the peak of the show was reached in Seasons 3 or 4. Additionally, there was a belief that the seasons following Steve’s departure lacked quality. However, upon rewatching all the episodes, she discovered that some of her favorite episodes were from Seasons 8 and 9, after Steve had left, as these seasons still featured compelling storylines.

Characters such as Erin, played by Ellie Kemper, received more attention in their character development, while Dwight, portrayed by Rainn Wilson, continued to provide ample comedic relief through his quirky actions. Some viewers argue that the storyline involving Pam and Jim’s near-breakup indicates a deviation from the show’s original path. However, it is possible that such changes would have occurred even with Carell remaining on the show.

The Office Is Getting A Spinoff

Following years of anticipation, it has been announced that a fresh series is on its way from the universe of The Office, with Greg Daniels at the helm as creator. This upcoming show, titled The Paper, delves into the challenges faced by a struggling paper company and introduces new characters. As of now, only one character from the original series has been confirmed to return.

In a recent interview, Domhnall Gleeson commented on his upcoming show, stating, “[John] was fantastic. To be honest, the best piece of advice he offered me was to go for it,” he shared. Similar praise was given to Steve Carell, another exceptional actor with whom he had previously collaborated. As fans eagerly await the release of The Paper, they might find themselves revisiting The Office, and hopefully continuing to watch even after Michael’s departure.

The Office is currently streaming on Peacock.
