IT: Welcome to Derry Confirms How Deadly Pennywise Will Be in MAX Series

In Stephen King’s world of ‘IT’, children have never been safe, and that trend is likely to continue in Max’s upcoming prequel series ‘IT: Welcome to Derry‘. As revealed by Rich Delia, the casting director for Andy Muschietti’s film adaptations ‘IT’ and ‘IT Chapter Two’, audiences should brace themselves for some of the child characters to meet their end in the new show. Discussing his previous experience with casting the beloved Losers Club, Delia shared that finding a fresh young cast for the series was quite a challenge. He fondly reminisced about working with the original cast of Losers, whom he found to be exceptionally talented young actors who have since gone on to achieve great things in their careers.

Delia expressed that discovering fresh actors for the project seemed a bit daunting… however, the content was so powerful, the characters were incredibly rich and deep. Plus, Andy and Barbara [Muschietti] are deeply invested in this universe, which makes you feel inspired to match their passion. So, it was essentially about digging as deep as possible to find these talented children who would captivate the audience, creating a bond that they’d fall in love with, and then inevitably watching some of them perish.

Delia’s statement that significant characters in the upcoming Losers set are destined to die is consistent with Pennywise’s history of murdering and feeding on children, as well as Bill Skarsgård’s recent assertion that the terrifying clown and the horrifying town of Derry will remain intense in “IT: Welcome to Derry.” Fretful fans who feared a softening of violence in the movies can take comfort knowing the series won’t shy away from confrontation. But, spectators must brace themselves for which characters might succumb to Pennywise’s wrath.

Furthermore, the casting director recollected Skarsgård’s initial tryout for the role of Pennywise in 2017’s IT, describing it as “one of the most striking auditions” he had experienced: “I was absolutely petrified. He wasn’t wearing a clown costume at that time, just Bill who happens to be an incredibly kind and amiable individual. However, it was only Bill who entered, and with a flick of a switch, he transformed into Pennywise, causing me to shiver and feel the hair stand up on my arms. When he left, I looked at my associate in a state of shock, exclaiming that I was genuinely frightened in the room. That’s a positive indication for someone taking on the role of Pennywise.

As of now, Max hasn’t specified an exact release date for “IT: Welcome to Derry”. However, they have confirmed that the series will debut in 2025. The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård (also serving as executive producer), Madeleine Stowe, Stephen Rider, Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar.

IT and IT Chapter Two are available to stream on Max.
