This summer marks the comeback of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” for its seventeenth season, and it features a joint appearance with the ABC sitcom set in Philadelphia, “Abbott Elementary.” FX has confirmed that Season 17 of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” will launch on FXX on July 9th. This premiere consists of two episodes, with one episode continuing the crossover with “Abbott Elementary.” In the latest season of “Abbott Elementary,” fans witnessed the gang from “Always Sunny” infiltrating “Abbott Elementary.” However, this time around, stars from “Abbott Elementary” will make an appearance on an episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The trailer displayed up above showcases the cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” namely Ronald “Mac” MacDonald (Rob McElhenney), Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day), Dennis Reynolds (Glenn Howerton), Dee Reynolds (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito). As is customary for the series, they are seen participating in Abbott Elementary again. Their objective this time is to enlist children to form a boy band and, on the sly, make off with some brownies.
As I gaze into the lens and slam a school locker shut, I ponder – “To be honest, they were not my cup of tea.
For Season 17, the main theme is “The Gang Adapts to the Corporate World” as they boldly move past their ‘specialized’ image in pursuit of loftier goals.
The plotline indicates that they will leverage cross-network promotions to expand their market reach, potentially blame an employee to defuse public criticism, take significant risks for a meeting with the Saudis, bend rules through unofficial ventures to accumulate wealth, and transform themselves to gain a wider audience appeal.
As a film enthusiast, it’s clear that the Gang, like many in power, seek wealth and exclusive social perks. This has been evident since 2005. However, they are not just power-hungry figures. They yearn for human connections; love, respect, a sense of freedom within bounds, endless applause, an overwhelming amount of attention, unending gratification, and raw, unfiltered excitement. In simpler terms, they hunger for the essence of what makes us all human.
“In Season 17, they’ll chase down them all.”
Previously, Katilin Olson shared her thoughts on the upcoming crossover with “Abbott Elementary”. She described it as “extremely enjoyable”, adding that “they’ll be diving into our world in a few weeks, which is very thrilling”. She expressed that it has been an exciting experience for both casts, as they are from a cable show and a network show respectively.
The hit TV show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is overseen by executive producers including creator Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Michael Rotenberg, Nick Frenkel, Dave Chernin, John Chernin, Rob Rosell, David Hornsby, Nina Pedrad, and Victor Hsu, all under the banner of FX Productions.
