It’s Been An Honor

Although Chicago Fire Season 13 continues to air in the 2025 TV lineup, with no confirmation yet about Season 14, there are already signs of change within this long-running NBC drama. In fact, further cast members are set to leave, as Jake Lockett and Daniel Kyri will be parting ways at the end of this season, portraying firefighters Sam Carver and Darren Ritter respectively. Now, Lockett is looking back on his journey with the series.

As a die-hard fan of “Fire,” I’m sharing the news that the filming for this season has wrapped, which marks the temporary farewell for Lockett and Kyri from Firehouse 51. Lockett joined the crew during Season 11, but his status as a series regular didn’t come until Season 13. Regrettably, budget cuts led to his departure, as reported earlier by Deadline. The actor has now shared on Instagram how deeply he’ll miss being part of this show.

Though I can’t predict precisely what lies ahead, I am certain that it will differ significantly from what has been, and I’ll deeply cherish the past. This path has filled me with immense pride.

Leaving a cast member on a favorite show is never easy, but it seems especially tough with “Chicago Fire” given the close-knit nature of the cast. The video Lockett shared underscores this bond. If Carver’s storyline wraps up in a way that allows for it, there’s a chance he could reappear down the line. Although actor Taylor Lockett was only part of the show for a short while, fans are unlikely to forget him. For Lockett himself, playing Carver appears to have been a standout experience during his career.

It’s been an honor bringing Sam to life.

This season has been quite challenging for me as a Chicago Fire follower. Early on, we suffered a significant blow with the tragic car accident that took Pascal’s wife. Moreover, it seemed like we might lose one of our beloved characters when Jack was trapped in a house fire, leading to Boden’s return.

Simultaneously, this storyline has revolved around Carver’s struggle with alcohol addiction, and he temporarily stepped away from 51 for recovery. It’s uncertain whether this will factor into his departure, but given that Chicago Fire is known for its unpredictability, anything could happen. You can read Jake Lockett’s entire post below:

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel the impact each time a familiar face bids farewell from Chicago Fire after 13 seasons. The departure of Alberto Rosende, Kara Killmer, and Eamonn Walker in Season 12 was particularly tough. Now, as we approach the end of this season, it’s bittersweet to learn that two more cast members are leaving. This continuous change in the cast is undeniably affecting the show’s continuity, making each goodbye a little harder than the last.

No matter how this season concludes, I’m optimistic that Carver’s departure is crafted in a manner that could pave the way for Jake Lockett’s return at some point. If not, his farewell should be as heroic as possible. Fans will have to wait and see how it unfolds, as new episodes of Chicago Fire resume on Wednesday, May 7 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
