It’s Time Demon Slayer Invested in More Filler Arcs

As a seasoned anime enthusiast with over two decades of viewing under my belt, I have to say that Demon Slayer‘s fourth season, The Hashira Training Arc, was a refreshing breath of fresh air. While I understand the purists’ concerns about filler content, I believe Ufotable struck the right balance in this instance.

The fourth season of Demon Slayer, known as The Hashira Training Arc, lacked sufficient content to justify a complete season of its highly acclaimed anime adaptation. Although the term “filler” refers to unique anime scenes not present in the original source material, this doesn’t necessarily mean that additional scenes are always detrimental to the series. Filler arcs may not have had the best reputation within franchises like Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, and more. However, Demon Slayer might buck this trend, and if season four is any indication, the Infinity Castle films could benefit from new content.

To fill those in on the filler that worked so well in the Hashira Training Arc, it was the session that featured the now-retired Sound Hashira working with Tanjiro on his swordsmanship. In the original manga by creator Koyoharo Gotouge, the training session was a brief one, only taking place over the a series of brief panels. In the anime, in an effort to help pad out the runtime, we were able to not only learn more about the training itself, but Tengen as a character. Thanks to the debilitating injuries he took while fighting the demon Gyutaro in the second season, this was a much needed story in learning about the Sound Hashira.

Infinity Castle Filler?

Looking forward to seeing additional storylines for the upcoming Infinity Castle films, given Ufotable’s handling of original content and the requirements of the new movies. Without delving into spoiler details, there is definitely scope for introducing fresh story arcs to enrich the narrative. While the origin debut of Infinity Castle served as a powerful conclusion to the series with the fight against Muzan and the Upper Moons, it could benefit from further character development in certain areas, especially during prolonged battle sequences.

Examining unique content is under close scrutiny among anime enthusiasts, and often for valid reasons. For instance, Ufotable has skillfully managed to add supplementary content to Demon Slayer while maintaining a sense of harmony with the original manga. They’ve shown restraint in not overloading the storyline with unnecessary filler. Here’s to hoping they will continue to introduce fresh yet essential stories in their upcoming movies, ensuring the series remains engaging and cohesive.

Future Filler

The Infinity Castle movie trilogy is being seen as the next significant installment in the storyline of the anime, “Demon Slayer”. However, it’s possible that there could be one more arc after the fight against Muzan, which might extend the franchise further. Ufotable, the production studio, may consider adding to this potential final arc. It’s not necessarily suggesting that additional arcs should follow the Infinity Castle trilogy, but the filler arcs have been successful in enhancing the shonen series so far. Here’s hoping that this trend continues, allowing Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps to finish their journey on a high note.
