They clarify that it illuminates when Copilot is activated or the AI-enabled laptop is powered on.

Additionally, I’ve observed that this symbol glows during AI benchmarks and local tasks on the laptop, but the illumination pattern differs from the Copilot one. Essentially, this light serves as an indicator when you are utilizing the AI-enhancing NPU while operating this AI-optimized laptop.

This feature has two aspects. You may discover that the type of tasks you often perform triggers that icon, providing you with a clearer understanding of how this AI computer is assisting you in ways a conventional AI-free computer cannot. On the other hand, you might realize that you seldom utilize AI features and don’t require an AI computer at all.

Over the recent months, my team and I had the opportunity to evaluate various Intel Core Ultra 200S AI-focused laptops. Generally, these machines exhibit superior CPU and NPU performance compared to earlier AI laptops. But it’s worth noting that this wasn’t consistently true for the Acer Swift 14 AI model.

As a devoted admirer of the Swift 14 AI, I’ve had the pleasure of using it for two weeks while working on various projects in Photoshop. On a personal note, it seldom froze up on me, and generally performed quite smoothly. For a more data-driven perspective, I subjected this device to several benchmark tests. The laptop is capable of handling AI tasks, excelling at everyday photo editing or running common software. However, when compared to other 200S AI PC laptops in the market, it falls slightly behind.

Upon conducting the Geekbench 6 CPU benchmark with the Swift 14 AI and its Intel Core Ultra 258V, I noticed that it delivered single-core and multi-core scores of 1,228 and 7,783 respectively. This performance falls significantly below the average scores achieved by other Intel Core Ultra 258V laptops, marking a new low for us in terms of Intel Core Ultra scoring. For further context on its rendering capabilities, I ran the Cinebench R24 benchmark test and found that it underperformed, returning single-core and multi-core scores of 50 and 527 respectively. This places it among the bottom three multi-core scores we’ve recorded for an Intel Core Ultra CPU, with several Ultra 7 155H devices scoring higher.

In my observation, although I can manage AI-related tasks and edit photos smoothly, as well as handle routine software applications on this laptop, it seems to trail behind comparable 200 Series AI-focused PC laptops available in the market.

In this Acer Swift 14 AI laptop, I conducted Procyon tests to assess its CPU and NPU inference performance. The Windows ML CPU test gave it a score of 52, which ranks among the lowest we’ve encountered so far. For the OpenVINO NPU benchmark, it outperformed all Ultra 7 100S laptops but fell short compared to other Ultra 7 200S models. Essentially, its AI performance lags behind most of the high-end AI PCs we’ve tested thus far. In a CrossMark system performance benchmark test, it scored a mere 1,051 points, placing it at the lower end of the spectrum, which isn’t ideal considering the previous results.

After completing CPU evaluations, I shifted focus towards the integrated graphics of the Intel Arc 140V. In a 3DMark Time Spy graphics test, the Swift 14 AI achieved a score of 4,355, surpassing any other Intel Arc 140V laptop we’ve tested thus far. It’s great to notice this superior performance. For those unaware, the Intel Arc offers more power than both Intel UHD and Intel Iris Xe, but it lacks the strength to manage demanding graphical software like AAA video games.

To assess the Speed and data transfer performance, I initially tested the SSD using CrystalDiskMark, followed by having the computer process a 4K version of Tears of Steel with Handbrake as the next step. In this initial test, the laptop’s SSD delivered a read speed of approximately 5,205 MB/s and a write speed of around 4,631 MB/s, demonstrating reasonable performance without being extremely slow or incredibly fast. To further support this observation, it took the computer about 3,329 seconds to transcode Tears of Steel, which is also a reasonable timeframe.

Thermals and fan noises

The Acer Swift 14 AI’s cooling fans activate easily even with minimal stimulation, yet they don’t become overly noisy. During a 20-minute CPU stress test using Cinebench R24, I pulled out a decibel meter and positioned it near the laptop’s rear vents, where it recorded a maximum of 56.3 dB. Interestingly, when I took readings close to my ear while using the device, it only showed 40.6 dB, similar to the sound of a peaceful office environment.

During a 20-minute stress test, it was observed that the cooling system of the laptop functioned quite well. Towards the end of the test, I used an infrared camera to take temperature readings. Predictably, the hottest spots were found near the back vents, recording 106 degrees F (41 degrees C), and the area above the keyboard, which reached 101 degrees F (38 degrees C). This isn’t extraordinarily high, ensuring that the laptop operates smoothly and efficiently.
