As a die-hard fan of graphic literature, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming masterpiece, “Dracula: A Storybook Portfolio” by none other than J.H. Williams III! With an impressive career spanning iconic works like “Echolands,” “The Sandman: Overture,” and “Promethea,” this comics creator has consistently proven his unparalleled storytelling prowess.
Award-winning comic artist J.H. Williams III (known for works such as “Echolands”, “The Sandman: Overture”, and “Promethea”) is joining forces with Image Comics this coming October to release a chilling, illustrated horror story titled “Dracula: A Storybook Portfolio“. This book reimagines the classic Dracula narrative through more than 150 pages of vividly painted illustrations and accompanying text passages. The hardcover edition of “Dracula: A Storybook Portfolio ” will be available in October, perfect for the Halloween season, and seems to bear some resemblance to Williams III’s work on “Batwoman” at DC Comics.
As a captivated fan, I eagerly anticipate delving into the enchanting world of “Dracula: A Storybook Portfolio.” This innovative artwork is crafted to resemble an enthralling illustrated children’s book, seamlessly blending illustrations with narrative. The creative presentation aims to offer a fresh perspective on Dracula, a goal I wholeheartedly support. Following Image’s announcement, I am thrilled about Williams III’s endeavor to weave a mesmerizing tale that transcends the boundaries of conventional art books, offering a captivating blend of illustration and prose.
Williams III expressed his enthusiasm in a statement about the release of his book, stating that he hasn’t come across a similar one in recent times. He aimed to create something different by merging illustrations with brief passages to construct an uncommon narrative structure found in most art books. The subject matter of the book is singular, and the illustrations mirror this. To give it a nostalgic feel, he added an older style to the prose sections but delivered them with a quick pace. He wanted the book to remind readers of classic storybooks that were often cherished by both young and old. With Drew Gill’s assistance from Image Comics, every aspect of the book was designed to achieve this simple yet enjoyable concept, resulting in a unique and hopefully fulfilling reading experience.

This action takes place following the monthly release of Image’s “Universal Monsters” books, which delve into figures such as Frankenstein and The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
On Wednesday, October 9, you’ll find “Dracula: A Storybook Portfolio,” illustrated by Williams III, at your local comic book stores. As for those who prefer books, it will hit independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on October 22. Additionally, this portfolio will be accessible digitally from October 22 on platforms like Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
