As a long-time fan of Jack Black and Tenacious D, I was truly disappointed to hear about their decision to cancel the ongoing tour and put all creative work on hold following Kyle Gass’s controversial comment about politics. I had been looking forward to seeing them live again after missing out on their last tour.
Jack Black and Tenacious D have announced a hiatus from their ongoing tour and creative projects following an incident at their Australia concert. The controversy erupted after Kyle Gass made a joking remark about a recent assassination attempt against former US President Donald Trump during the show. Jack Black was taken aback by the comment and decided to reassess the situation. The joke gained traction on social media, with conservative critics amplifying it, leading to widespread attention. In response, both Jack Black and Kyle Gass issued apologies to their fans for the tour cancellation and condemned political violence.
As a seasoned performer with a deep commitment to promoting positivity and inclusivity, I was taken aback by the divisive and harmful words spoken at the show on Sunday. I want to make it clear that I unequivocally denounce hate speech and any form of encouragement for political violence.
Frontier Touring, the tour promoter for Tenacious D and the Spicy Meatball Tour in Australia and New Zealand, has announced that refunds will be given to fans in the near future. The American leg of the tour, which was scheduled for later this autumn, has been postponed.
Still A Great Year For Jack Black
Jack Black had been experiencing a great run in 2024. The latest installment of “Kung Fu Panda” was a hit at the box office, and his work on the film was well-received. In addition, there was a resurgence of interest in “School of Rock,” as the movie and its soundtrack became available on streaming platforms this year. This brought about an invitation for Jack to perform at Ringwood Secondary College in Australia. Regrettably, he couldn’t make it due to scheduling conflicts. However, he did send a heartfelt message in response to the students’ request.
“Wow, Ringwood Secondary College! I can’t believe you’re putting on ‘School of Rock’. I’m so impressed and moved by your video. It’s been twenty years since I made that film, as evident by my gray beard, but it remains my all-time favorite. Keep up the great work, and although I can’t attend in person due to other commitments, know that nothing can halt ‘The School of Rock’.”
