The band faced controversy when Kyle Gass jokingly commented about an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a show in Australia. When Jack asked his friend to make a birthday wish, Gass quipped, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” Critics quickly seized upon the remark, leading Tenacious D to issue a statement. However, Black reassures fans that they will reunite soon.
“Black had to pause, but he loves what he does and everyone needs a break sometimes,” Black told ET. “Yes, we’ll return.” After his comments sparked controversy, the star felt compelled to address the issue on social media, expressing regret and apologizing for any offense caused. Keep in mind that Australia has more stringent free-speech regulations compared to the United States, so a swift response was necessary to prevent potential legal complications.

Due to some remarks, Tenacious D was forced to call off their Spicy Meatball Tour. Frontier Touring, the ticket issuing company, needed to release a statement with guidance for fans in Australia and New Zealand on how to receive their refunds. Over the following weeks, these refunds should be processed, and even the U.S. branch of the tour has been temporarily halted. In response, Gass posted an apology on social media about this unfortunate event.
