As a film enthusiast with a penchant for complex narratives and compelling performances, I am genuinely thrilled about Jacob Elordi’s upcoming role in “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.” The series promises an intricate exploration of Dorrigo Evans’ life, a character study that resonates deeply with my appreciation for stories that delve into the human condition.
In the near future, you’ll see Jacob Elordi grace your television sets once more, and this time, he’s venturing onto BBC One with the series titled “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
This series is referred to as “an exploration of a multifaceted character, Dorrigo Evans,” portraying his life journey. It delves into his youthful romance with Amy Mulvaney, his wartime imprisonment during World War II in a prisoner-of-war camp, and his subsequent career as both a reverend and surgeon, while grappling with the role of a reluctant war hero in his later years.
Ciarán Hinds stars as an older Dorrigo.
The BBC has shared that they have secured the broadcasting rights for this series, which will air on BBC One and iPlayer; however, an official release date is still pending.
Additionally joining the cast are Olivia DeJonge (from Elvis), Heather Mitchell (known for Love Me and Upright), Thomas Weatherall (familiar from Heartbreak High), Show Kasamatsu (starring in Tokyo Vice), Charles An, and Simon Baker (both previously seen in Limbo and Breath).
Sue Deeks, in charge of BBC program procurement, stated: “The Narrow Road to the Deep North is an intricate, stunning, and emotionally intense series that delicately combines various phases in the life of surgeon Dorrigo Evans, from the fervor of early love to the unsparing portrayal of existence as a prisoner of war in occupied Burma.
“We are so very pleased to bring this truly exceptional adaptation to BBC viewers.”
At Curio Pictures, executive producers Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner remarked: “The Narrow Road to the Deep North is a sweeping narrative that showcases the enduring strength of love amidst extreme conditions.
We’re thrilled to collaborate with Shaun Grant, Justin Kurzel, Richard Flanagan, and the rest of our talented team in telling this remarkable tale. We eagerly anticipate sharing it with everyone!
The film, titled “The Five-Parter,” draws inspiration from Richard Flanagan’s novel. Screenplay adaptation was handled by Shaun Grant, while Justin Kurzel, well recognized for his 2015 Macbeth production featuring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, directs it.
