James Bond Star Casts Doubt on Their Return, Thinks Franchise Will Get a Complete Reboot

As a dedicated fan of the James Bond franchise, I must admit that the news of Ben Whishaw possibly parting ways with the iconic character Q has left me somewhat disheartened. Having watched every single film featuring this beloved character since Desmond Llewelyn’s tenure, it’s bittersweet to see change on the horizon.

Ben Whishaw, who portrayed Q in three James Bond movies, shares that he doesn’t anticipate a return now that Daniel Craig has completed his tenure as 007. In an interview with BBC, Whishaw mentioned that the franchise might benefit from some new vitality, but he would gladly take on the role if given the chance. Known as Q (short for Quartermaster), this character has appeared in 22 out of 25 Eon Productions James Bond films and has been played by Peter Burton, Desmond Llewelyn, John Cleese, and Whishaw himself. Typically, Q equips James Bond with his high-tech gadgets.

Over the years, the Bond franchise has had a somewhat inconsistent continuity, especially when it comes to the actors portraying James Bond himself. However, there have been some consistent faces among the supporting cast who often return, like Dame Judi Dench. She starred in eight Bond films from 1995 to 2015, always playing M, and she shared screen time with both Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig during that period, developing a friendship on set.

Yesterday on the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg show, Whishaw expressed his belief that he won’t be part of the next installment. He suspects they’ll begin anew with a fresh cast altogether, although he admits his guess is just that – a hunch, as he doesn’t have definite knowledge on the matter.

He mentioned that it could benefit from a fresh start and some new participants, he said. And yes, if given the chance, I’d certainly be involved.

Previously this year, whispers arose that Aaron Taylor Johnson, who starred in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” was the top contender to assume the role of Bond for the upcoming series of films. The Bond character is currently MGM’s most prominent franchise, though for quite some time now, MGM has been partnering with Sony to distribute a large number of their major titles, including the James Bond franchise featuring Daniel Craig.

When Vanity Fair inquired about the rumors, the actor responded, “It’s complimentary. Not only can wonderful things be said, but also harmful gossip can spread. It’s important to remain focused, stay humble, surround yourself with loved ones who care for you deeply, and maintain a balanced perspective. Once you start accepting the nonsense people speak about you, you’ve lost your sanity.
