James Bond star Daniel Craig doesn’t care who replaces him as new 007

As a seasoned film critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that Daniel Craig‘s nonchalant attitude towards the next James Bond is nothing short of refreshing. After all, I’ve seen actors cling to roles like barnacles for far too long, refusing to let go even when it’s time to pass the torch.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m happy to share that Daniel Craig himself has made it clear: he’s got no preference over who takes on the role of the next 007. The decision lies with the producers, and I, for one, am excited to see who steps into those iconic shoes!

In late 2021, the actor chose not to continue in the famous spy character from “No Time to Die,” sparking discussions among movie enthusiasts about who would be a suitable replacement. Some popular guesses include Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Hardy.

At present, Craig is actively marketing the arthouse romantic drama titled “Queer,” helmed by Luca Guadagnino, who also directed ‘Call Me By Your Name.’ This movie is being recognized as a significant contender in this year’s award season.

Alas, Bond-related questions still follow him wherever he goes.

In a chat with Variety (interview linked below), Craig and his co-star Drew Starkey from Queer are asked questions designed to test their knowledge of each other. One such question is: “If either of you were to pass on the role of James Bond, who would you prefer to see step into those iconic shoes?

Before Starkey could even ponder what Craig’s response could be, the previous 007 chimes in with a laugh, stating: “It doesn’t matter to me.

I eventually opted not to respond to the question and instead chose to scribble on my whiteboard, preferring that action over revealing a name. Here’s the link to the video below where you can witness this moment: [Video Link]

During a previous interview on the Queer press tour, a reporter inquired about the possibility of a gay James Bond character appearing on screen someday. Craig, the actor, avoided answering this question, but Guadagnino stepped in and responded on his behalf.

The director made a humorous comment, saying: “Alright everyone, just for a moment let’s act mature. It’s undeniable that we can never truly understand James Bond’s personal wishes, full stop. What truly matters is that he carries out his assignments effectively.
