James Bond’s Gemma Arterton leads spy thriller Secret Service – with Adolescence and Doctor Who stars

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share the news: Yours truly, Gemma Arterton, will grace our screens as the lead in an exhilarating new espionage series titled “Secret Service.” The show is based on the novel of the same name by ITV News anchor Tom Bradby. Can’t wait for this intriguing journey!

In the past, Arterton has explored the spy genre, as seen in her roles as Bond Girl Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace (2008) and The King’s Man (2021). However, this upcoming series seems to be a more realistic take compared to those two films.

The upcoming five-part series is characterized as “thrilling, relevant, and grounded in today’s political climate.” It will explore the historical strife between Russia and Britain, with Arterton portraying Kate Henderson, a senior MI6 officer, who uncovers a possible Russian asset among high-ranking UK politicians while conducting an undercover operation.

‘Kate is in a desperate chase to discover who they are. With a gruesome murder bringing her team into the public eye, Kate must maneuver through the treacherous realm of spying while keeping her family intact and preserving her professional image.’

Arterton will be working alongside several well-known actors such as Rafe Spall (from The English), Mark Stanley (known for Adolescence), and Alex Kingston (famous for Doctor Who). Additionally, Roger Allam (from Endeavour), Amaka Okafor (Bodies), and Khalid Abdalla (The Day of the Jackal) are also part of the cast.

In addition to the main cast, Avi Nash, Aoife Hinds, Rochenda Sandall, Alma Prelec, Galaxie Clear, Harley Barton, Michael Tcherepashenets, Petar Zekavica, Miglen Mirtchev, Juris Žagars, and Lana Vlady are also part of the diverse group of actors.

The series stands out as it brings together Bradby and director James Marsh once more, a duo who last worked together in the 2012 production ‘Shadow Dancer’. Notably, James Marsh was honored with an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2008 for his film ‘Man on Wire’.

Actress Arterton expressed her joy about joining a captivating and current espionage thriller project with such a gifted crew. She’s looking forward to working with Tom Bradby, Jemma Kennedy [screenwriter], James Marsh, and the exceptional team at Potboiler. She can hardly wait to bring this tale to life alongside an impressive cast.

Marsh stated: “We’ve gathered a fantastic group of performers to breathe life into these captivating, thought-provoking scripts that resonate eerily with contemporary politics. This project is a thrilling and hard-to-resist opportunity for a director.

Simultaneously, Bradby expressed his exhilaration, stating it was “incredibly thrilling to be on the brink of filming this drama.” He further mentioned that he was “truly astounded by the caliber of the actors” and emphasized that “the show is as relevant and current as it gets.
