It hasn’t even been a full week since Martin Fowler left EastEnders so dramatically, and it’s clear that we’re still feeling the impact of his departure.
In a heart-wrenching manner, James Bye bid adieu to his decade-long character, expressing his deep affection for Stacey (played by Lacey Turner), as the Queen Vic disintegrated around him during the live 40th anniversary episode.
Everyone living in Walford, along with its enthusiasts, have found it tough to cope since then. However, if you felt the scene was challenging to witness, Bye reveals that it was actually more difficult to shoot.
“Even on the episodes before the live, we couldn’t get through scenes – it was ridiculous!”

In all honesty, there came a time when I, along with Turner, questioned whether we could pull off the crucial, dramatic scene.
We told one another, “It seems unlikely that we’ll manage to utter any words,” and on several attempts, neither of us could speak without choking up.
In the end, Bye and Turner didn’t just meet expectations; they exceeded them significantly. As he chuckled, he mused, “Perhaps it was the thrill of being live on air, or knowing millions were tuning in, wanting to grasp our message… But we felt compelled to seize the moment. It was a wild ride, like being on a rollercoaster, and we just had to hold on tight, promising ‘see you at the end.’

In a recent interview on The One Show, Bye confessed that he was the one who informed Lacey Turner about his departure, explaining: “I requested permission from the executive producer [Chris Clenshaw] – once we’d essentially decided – that I should be the one to break the news to Lacey. Everyone else could learn it from others, but I needed to tell her myself.
He commented, “It was all about showing respect. After all, she is not only my friend but also my coworker and former screen spouse, so I thought it was the appropriate action.
He continued by expressing that parting from the entire team, both cast and crew, was a challenging experience for him, yet he sensed a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere on the filming location.
He expressed that it was quite favorable. To clarify, there were indeed tears, but the reasons behind his actions were evident to all, and they understood what lay ahead for him.
Goodbye refers to the latest news that he will portray Mr. Darcy in the forthcoming stage production of Death Comes to Pemberley, scheduled to commence in May.
The actor openly expressed great enthusiasm about their upcoming role, as rehearsals are set to begin next month.
