As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the visionary director, James Cameron, has unveiled his upcoming fantasy masterpiece titled “The Devils.” Following the epic saga of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” this film promises an exciting continuation of the Avatar universe. Initially slated for a 2015 release, “Fire and Ash” now marks the third installment in the franchise and has been meticulously developed over the years. Currently in post-production, this cinematic marvel is set to grace the big screen on December 19.
On a Monday post, Cameron officially unveiled his upcoming fantasy movie on Facebook, adapted from Joe Abercrombie’s novel “The Devils.” Cameron’s production company, Lightstorm, acquired the book rights. The forthcoming project will see collaboration between the author and the filmmaker in its scriptwriting process. Here’s what Cameron shared: [Cameron’s comment]
How should I characterize The Devils? A gripping horror adventure with a sharp, satirical edge, where good and evil blur constantly. It’s a chaotic, stylish journey through an alternate medieval world, where the monsters might just save your life. Joe Abercrombie delivers exceptional storytelling here, introducing fresh characters that are as tempting as they are dangerous. The narrative twists and turns at breakneck speed, with Joe’s signature biting wit and style on full display. The Devils is a reflection of Joe’s cynical perspective on human nature, seen through the lens of characters that are far from human. Yet, there’s always a glimmer of hope for redemption that adds depth to the story, making it both intriguing and emotional.
For decades, Joe’s writing has been a source of profound enjoyment for me, with each new story adding another layer to my admiration, particularly “Best Served Cold” and the “Age of Madness” trilogy. However, it was the intrigue of “The Blasphemous Ones” that ultimately motivated me to purchase one of his books and collaborate with him on its screen adaptation. I’m eagerly anticipating our writing journey together, confident that this adaptation will essentially write itself due to Joe’s ability to craft vivid scenes and structure his stories in a cinematic manner. As I approach the conclusion of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” I look forward to embarking on this fresh challenge, bringing these unforgettable characters to life.
Abercrombie mirrored the same level of excitement as the filmmaker regarding the forthcoming film version, as you can see in his statement below:
[Abercrombie’s Statement]
For more than four decades, James Cameron has captivated audiences like myself by turning the seemingly unfilmable into reality on screen. His unique ability to blend jaw-dropping action and visual grandeur with deeply emotional personal tales is unparalleled. I can’t imagine anyone else as suited to adapt this extraordinary, enchanting book for the big screen.
