James Gunn Kills Robert Pattinson as DCU’s Batman

I regret to inform Robert Pattinson‘s Batman enthusiasts that he will not continue as Batman in the DC Universe. The studio has been hinting at this for a while, and James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-heads of the DC Studio, confirmed it at a recent press event attended by ComicBook. They commended Pattinson’s performance in ‘The Batman’ but have their own ideas for Batman as they move into the “Gods and Monsters” storyline. They also mentioned their only announced Batman-related title, ‘The Brave and the Bold’, though some fans are still hoping to see the Caped Crusader before then in another DCU title.

Journalists inquired about the recurring speculation that Robert Pattinson might portray Batman in the DCU, to which Gunn and Safran responded. Gunn made it clear, “It’s not at all part of our plans.” He agreed as Safran complimented Pattinson while simultaneously dismissing this particular rumor.

Safran expressed his affection, but emphasized the necessity of introducing a Batman character into the DCU,” Safran stated. “This is crucial, and it seems we’ll be doing this through Brave and the Bold.

In contrast to DC Comics adaptations falling behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent times, Batman has consistently shone as an intriguing main character on the big screen and across popular culture. This has left many fans puzzled as they watch the development of the DC Universe without Batman at its heart. However, Gunn and Safran have expressed their intention to steer clear of traditional origin tales and instead broaden the franchise with unique narratives that fans might not have encountered before, and so far, it appears they are following through on this plan.

This summer, DC Universe’s lineup will feature Superman on the big screen, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow set for release in 2026. An unexpected Batman adversary, Clayface, will then star in a solo movie, premiering in September of 2026. As for future releases, the sequence appears to be The Authority, followed by The Brave and the Bold, and finally Swamp Thing. However, specific dates for these films haven’t been announced yet.

In contrast to Batman, who appears in just one of the six titles, two of these are dedicated to adversaries he frequently confronts. As for the television side, it seems less inclined towards the Dark Knight, offering series like Peacemaker, Green Lanterns, Waller, Booster Gold, and Paradise Lost – a prequel focusing on Wonder Woman’s homeland. However, enthusiasts remain on high alert, as they anticipate Batman’s covert emergence in unanticipated places. We’ll have to wait and see if their suspicions prove true.

Regarding Pattinson, it’s set for the next “The Batman” installment to start filming towards the end of this year, with a projected release date on October 1, 2027. Until then, you can catch lots of Batman content on Max.
