James Gunn Unveils Groundbreaking New Character in DC Reboot!

James Gunn’s revamped vision for the DC Universe has taken a major step forward with the debut of a crucial new character. As Gunn restructures the franchise under the DC Studios name, his forthcoming projects are combining classic characters with fresh ones, some of which will be portrayed by well-known actors.

In the trailer for Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” Sean Gunn has stepped into the live-action DC Universe for the first time, portraying Maxwell Lord. This significant move marks an important milestone in James Gunn’s revamped superhero universe. Known for his work alongside his brother on various projects, Sean Gunn has previously appeared in multiple DC productions. Notably, he provided both voice and motion capture for Weasel and played Calendar Man in “The Suicide Squad.” Additionally, he reprised his role as Weasel and voiced G.I. Robot in “Creature Commandos.” These roles were initially announced at the start of 2023, solidifying Sean Gunn as a key figure in the new DC lineup.

In the evolving world of DC Universe (DCU), Maxwell Lord is set to exert a significant impact. This new character seems to be leading the Justice Squad, a team composed of Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner – metahumans among us. Initially, this squad will debut in Superman, later reassembling in Season 2 of Peacemaker. This interconnected journey marks the initial strides of the DCU. Maxwell Lord, historically a character from the comic books, is frequently depicted as a morally ambiguous figure who wields immense power and influence through manipulation. Sean Gunn’s versatile acting skills are likely to continue shaping various characters within the upcoming DCU, further expanding his already impressive repertoire.

Sean Gunn’s Growing DC Characters List

Weasel (DCEU version in The Suicide Squad)

In the movie The Suicide Squad, released in 2021, Weasel found himself incarcerated at Belle Reve following accusations of murdering 27 children. Against his will, he was conscripted into Task Force X. During a mission to Corto Maltese, he was believed to have drowned upon landing but miraculously managed to stay alive and made a stealthy escape into the jungle instead.

Calendar Man

In the short-lived scene from “The Suicide Squad“, Sean Gunn’s character, Calendar Man, presents as a witty, thematic antagonist with a calendar motif. He mockingly interacted with David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man.

Weasel (DCU version in Creature Commandos)

In the exciting series Creature Commandos, Weasel is portrayed as a misjudged, beastly metahuman who bears the stigma of a past tragedy at Sunnyhill School. Following his successful completion of a previous mission with Task Force X, he then links up with Task Force M, forming an emotional bond with Princess Ilana Rostovic. This connection ultimately leads to a tragic error during an episode triggered by post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

G.I. Robot

Speaking through the voice of Sean Gunn, the character at hand is an android soldier from World War II, originally deployed with Easy Company to battle against the Nazis. Later on, this combat android was reactivated for duty within Task Force M.

Following his actions against neo-Nazis in present times, he was incarcerated and later assigned a mission to Pokolistan. There, he developed a connection with Nina Mazursky before meeting his demise at the hands of Circe. After being rebuilt by A.R.G.U.S., he reappeared on the team with enhanced abilities, suggesting that Sean Gunn may have more voice acting roles in the future given the confirmation of Creature Commandos Season 2, which is reportedly moving quickly.
